Parenting after a Loss

Refuses the bottle... Sigh

DD has taken bottle of my pumped BM consistently since she was just 2 weeks old, in addition to BFing. She's been great about it...up until now. DH and I have both been trying to give her bottles over the last three days, and she's refused it each time. WTH?! I go back to work on July 3rd and I'm freaking out....

Wow! Just after writing this post, I tried nursing her first, then the bottle. And she took it! I guess maybe it was because she was calm and slightly satisfied, instead of hungry and upset? I know this is far from a permanent solution, but I'll take it for now!

Have you been in the room when your DH is offering the bottle? She may be refusing because you're there.

Nope, I've actually been leaving the house. Then I get a call or text that she's screaming and refusing the bottle. Hopefully the little trick that helped this afternoon gets her to the point where she will take it when I'm out very soon!

  • DD pulled that same trick right before I went back to work, after happily taking a bottle for months. It was never an issue after that, at daycare or anywhere else. I think she knew daycare was different, that she was in a different place and my milk was as close as she was going to get to me while I was gone.

  • DD took bottles from day one and at 7 weeks, decided she was over it. She wouldn't take a paci, either. I tried everything (having DH do it, leaving the house, BF before, various nipples, cold/room temp/warm bm, etc) because she was going to daycare at 12 weeks.

She didn't do too well with bottles at first, but was fine after a couple of days at daycare. Still wasn't thrilled when I had to feed her a bottle but she would tolerate it. Luckily, that didn't have to happen too often.

    Hang in there!
