I have a phone interview today - what do I need to expect?

I've never had a phone interview before, only in person interviews and have always done great with them but the lack of personal interaction, body language, etc. makes me a little nervous.  I have researched the company and obviously know my own history, etc. but what should I expect?  Will they possibly do the standard tell us about yourself; tell us about a good business venture, etc. that kind of thing?  If so I have experience to back up my Marketing/PR/Communications aspect but I don't know what job position/title they want me for.  The woman seemed nice in her email but I don't want to be ill prepared at all.

    Not knowing the role for which you are being interviewed seems like a huge stress maker to me.  I would find that out before the interview if you can.  I do phone interviews all the time, and they are usually 30 minute convos that explain our department, cover the usual interviewing ground and close with questions from the candidate.  Very similar to an in person.

    I think there are a few available positions as they are building and adding to their existing business so I think it is a few options and together we will determine which one I fit better at?  I'm not too stressed really my resume explains my experience and I can easily discuss each position I have been at.  I'm glad to know it is like an inperson - I have always done great at interviews so I am not too concerned I just wasn't sure how far they would follow or fall from the typical cliched interview questions so I have a few points and notes I have taken so far so it is something I feel like I am somewhat prepared for given my available information.

    I had a phone interview from a school I'm a teacher across the country. I had flown out for a first interview at one school, and had another "first interview" at a second school for a different grade, recommended from the one I flew out for. Anyway, they asked the same kinds of questions, lots of situations where I had to explain what I'd do and why. They also had me do a writing sample email it to them. I'm sure that is more job specific, but you never know.

    Just make sure you talk slowly and smile while you are talking! I coach people through interviews all the time. May seem dumb, but while you are on the phone be in front of a mirror. If you sit up straight and smile while you are talking, you sound better on the phone. Also, don't walk around if you are on a cell phone! You may loose service or get a bad connection. It sounds like you did a lot of prep work about the company, so just be yourself!! Good luck!
