I apologize in advance for my rambling. But I have been thinking a lot about hair and eye color lately. Anyone else?
I am a natural dark strawberry blonde and my husband has orange red hair. I am really hoping for some redheaded babies. My mother carried the red hair gene, although she was a brunette. And my father was blonde. My husband's mother is a redhead and his father was blonde. I am guessing there is a chance for blonde babies too.
As for eyes... My mother has dark brown, father had blue. His parents both were blue eyed. My eyes kind of throw me off, because they are a golden yellow-brown. That is the best way to describe them. Yellow is the closest color, actually. Weird, I know. DH's are blue. I have no idea what to expect for eyes, to be honest.
I love to think about this stuff. I don't think too much about names or baby clothes or what the nursery will look like. This is the stuff I think about.
What do you think your babies will look like?
Re: Thinking about hair and eye color
DH's Mom was a redhead and so wa my Dad so I'm hoping that with the red haired genes on both sides we'll have a strawberry blond or red haired kid.
Did you happen that catch the post someone maybe a week ago with a link to a site about predicting eye color? I thought it was a pretty good test.
There's not a lot of mystery as to what we will likely see. DH and I both have blue eyes and so do both pairs of parents! yup 99% blue eyed baby
And the same thing goes for brown hair across the board. Some lighter or darker than others but all brunettes in the family. We may have one or two blondes that may have skipped a generation though. It is really fun to think about!

I did see that. We were 50% blue, 50% green. I put my eyes in as green, though, because there wasn't an option for yellow, lol. And my eyes are definitely not brown. When I was looking at pics of green eyes versus brown eyes, my eyes are actually closer to how green eyes look. If I remember correctly, there wasn't even a hazel option. Or grey. So I'm kind of curious where those colors fall into place.

My DH has black hair and brown eyes. I have reddish brown very curly hair with green eyes. No telling what we will get. Would be cool for that blue eyes to finally show back up.
My two boys dad has brown hair and pretty cat green eyes. One son has blonde curly hair green eyes like mine and one has straight brown hair with brown eyes.
In my experience nothing is predictable
Genes are a funny thing and how they get expressed.
Take my daughter, for instance. Her sperm donor was half Hispanic/half white -- dark hair, dark eyes. I'm just a mutt of all kinds of German, French, English makes. I have dark hair and mostly brown eyes that turn hazel. Emma came out almost albino blonde (her eyebrows were so light it looked like she didn't have any) when she was born and stormy blue eyes. She still has the blue eyes (more like a gray blue), but her hair has turned a dirty blonde. We'll see if it continues to darken as she gets older (she'll be 10 in October).
My dad and brother have dark hair, blue eyes. My mom had dark hair, dark eyes. Obviously, I missed the recessive blue eye gene. My husband now is half Hispanic/half white. His mom being the Hispanic descent and his dad being white. He has dark hair and blue eyes. It'll be interesting to see if our child will have blue eyes. I'm also wondering if our child will also be blonde, because he was as a child, too.

TTC #3
My husband's entire family is all blonde and redheads, maternal and paternal. My bio-parents were both blonde, but the only blondes in their families. DD has bright blonde hair that I think is here to stay. I think this LO will also be a blondie. I would love, love a redhead but I doubt it'll happen lol
As far as eyes go, H has blue and I have blue. His parents are both blue-eyed as are his maternal grandparents. With the exception of a couple green eyed folks on my maternal side, I am pulling from a lot of blue eye genes. DD has my eyes, color and shape. I can only assume this LO will also have blue eyes, although the shade is anyone's guess lol
DD has golden hair and green eyes. They were grey for a long time.
My sister is a green eyed blonde. Her husband has dark hair with light blue eyes. Her first DD is a blondie with light blue eyes. Her second DD has dark dark brown hair with light blue eyes.
Gene pools are trippy.
I wonder all the time
I am a red head, lighter red but not a strawberry blonde. (I am secretly wishing for a red head lol)
My two older boys from my first marriage are dark. Their Dad is Hispanic and I am Irish. Both have almost black hair and dark chocolate brown eyes. My youngest has much darker skin then my oldest and he looks like he has the perfect tan all year round, and they both are adorable haha! They do not look a thing like me and I've been asked a lot if I am babysitting them.
My husband is half hispanic and his dad is very dark complected, but my DH has Blonde hair blue eyes, but a darker skin tone. I am excited to see what we produce together
genes are a funny thing !
Baby 2: EDD: 8/06/14 CP: 11/13
BFP 5/20/13 m/c 6/27/13
We will be TTC starting in August.
We are starting to come out to family, and so far EVERYONE has mentioned this!
DH has bright red/orange hair, I am brunette. There are no redheads on my side of family, but there were none on DH's dad's side either - so I suppose you never know! I am thinking brown hair is most likely, but would love a little redheaded boy like my husband.
My eyes are brown, as are everyone in my family's. DH's are green, so would love for a little green-eyed baby, but brown is probably a better bet.
We both have freckles and fair skin, so I am guessing those are a safe bet! I have dimples, and would love to see those on a LO

sibling love
We were both blond as kids, I turned very dark ashy blond as an adult and DH's hair is brown.
I have hazel eyes and he has brown so my bet is for brown.
So most likely, a blond kid turning brown hair with brown eyes.

My DH is of Scottish descent. His hair is a dirty blond color and it curls. His beard, however, grows in red. I freakin' love it. He's got blue eyes.
I'm of predominately Irish descent, and I've got black hair, blue eyes, and really fair skin. (I lighten my hair a lot, so it's usually a dark brown color, but naturally, it's black.)
Before we had kids, we "planned" on having 3, and we wanted 2 boys and a girl. So, when I would think about what those kids would look like, our first son looked like DH, with blond curly hair and blue eyes, and our second son and daughter looked like me, with the dark hair.
Then we had DS, who looked exactly as I imagined him. Blond hair, little curls in it, and blue eyes. He's a clone of DH, except he got my eye shape.
We'll see what we get with baby #2.

MH has dirty blonde hair white blonde as a child and pale as a teen, hazel eyes, and a fair complexion that burns easily. His beard comes in with a lot of red in it. His background is Irish and Scottish.
Our son has white blonde hair, fair to medium skin and dark green eyes. : He is also on the tall side like my family. And he has my lips and eyes, but MHs cute little nose.
I'm pretty interested to see what this LO will look like : dark hair with my skin tone would be neat I think especially since our son looks so much like MH. But I'll take what I can get haha.
My husband is a red head and I really wanted a red head. I had blonde hair when I was little and it turned light brown and our DD came out with jet black hair! My mom has dark brown hair so I guess that's where it came from. Her hair has since lightened up and is brown with reddish highlights now. My DH has blue eyes and I have hazel and my DD has green.
I'm curious to see if this one will be a redhead!
My parents, FIL and both DH and I have blue eyes. MIL is odd man out with brown eyes. DS got the blue eyes so I'm hoping this LO will as well.
All of us have brunette to black hair. DS started out blonde (just like I did), but as it grows, it's getting darker. I expect this LO to be the same as well.
I agree that genetics are pretty unpredictable. I say this because I'm a blondish brunette and DH had dark blonde hair also. Our first son has sandy blonde hair with a red tint (under artificial lights), our daughter was born with dark (!!) brown hair that lightened just a little, and my youngest son came out coppery red! (Even his eyebrows, lashes and the baby back hair he had a birth was the same red. lol)
Seeing my second son, was actually kind of shocking. We didn't realize we had any red in our family until he was born and were told there was redheads on both sides of our families. We do love that he is a redhead.
We were told that in something like 20 years, redheads will probably be extinct. That's so sad to me!
SAHM to 4 kiddos... K (5/05), N (4/09), C (11/10) and Baby A 1/13/14
Yeah, that was a rumor that was floating around a few years ago. It's not true. Here's one of many articles about it. clicky
I'm glad it was just a rumor!

Eyes DH's are blue, mine are hazel but I have the genes for both blue and brown mom had dark brown and dad beautiful blue so we have a 50/50 chance of having blue eyes I've known this for 10 years since high school genetics because I always wanted a blue eyed child
Dimples are also dominant.
DH has dark brown hair and dark brown eyes. I have blue/green eyes and darker blonde/reddish hair. DS got the dark brown eyes, but he has my hair color--slightly less red, but pretty close. When he was a newborn, his newborn photos and mine looked identical; even as he got a little older his baby pictures looked a lot like mine. BUT when you look at him and compare him to my husband and I as we are now, he is a pretty good mix of both, but resembles DH a little more.
It will be really interesting to see what this one winds up with. So many possible combinations!

I wonder about this a lot. My H is fair- light skin, blue eyes and blonde hair. There is a red head gene in his family, (his brother has red hair) but otherwise most of his family is either blonde or a very light brown (so light is looks like dirty blonde. ) I am Italian and look like it. I have Olive skin, dark hair and then my eyes are a bit unique. They are a golden brown with dots of honey in them. Both of my parents have dark brown eyes, but they also both have one parent with blue/green eyes. I know that the blue eye gene should be in me. My eyes were blue for almost 2 years then they changed to the color brown they are now.
I'm very curious as to what my LO will look like.
My friend's babies are biracial her husband is half black. Her older son is tan skin, dark hair and eyes. Her new baby is fair skin and auburn hair. Genetics are so cool.
I would bet your baby is a redhead
MY husband is brown hair, brown eyes. I'm light blonde/blue. His mom is blonde/ blue though.
Our two boys both have brown eyes, my older son has dirty blonde hair and light brown eyes, my younger has light blonde hair and chocolate brown eyes.
I admit I'm hoping this one has blue eyes...maybe blue eyes and brown hair...and a girl? Oh my word. DH would DIE.

With my son- I had a pretty strong feeling that he would be bald and eventually blond (which he is) but I REALLY thought he would have brown eyes like me and my side. I was shocked when he had the most beautiful blue eyes.
With this baby-although this might sound weird- I keep just picturing another version of my son. I can't wait to see him or her and what similarities/differences they will have.
My husband and I have talked about this a lot, especially since we are different ethnicities.
My skin is pretty olive for a Scottish girl, but my husband's is darker. My whole family is lighter than me and his whole family is darker than him. I am sure our baby will look like s/he has a natural tan year-around.
As far as hair goes, his is almost black and is straight (was blonde and curly as a child). Mine is super curly and light brown (blonder and straighter as a child). I think curly hair is a dominate gene, I could be wrong.
His eyes are dark brown and have always been. Mine were hazel/brown growing up, but have lightened into green. I hope they get my eye color, but will probably get his.
He has dimples, I dont. I hope they get those, I love dimples.
I have orange red hair. DH has brown hair but his beard has some red in it. Both of our fathers had red hair. DS has blonde hair and DD has bright red/orange hair like me. I'm actually shocked I have one kid that isn't a redhead. DS really could go any direction regarding hair color as an adult but I'm betting he'll settle into a dark brown with barely a hint of red in it. I'm betting #3 is another redhead.
DH, DS, and DD all have blue eyes. Mine were blue as a kid then turned greener as an adult.
