Parenting after a Loss

Advice needed: sleeping attire

DD has been STTN for 2 weeks straight, woo hoo! Her routine involves swaddling in an Aden and Anais blanket, a white noise machine, and her RnP. However, the last two nights in a row she has managed to break free of her swaddle and pull it over her head. Gasp! So tonight I tried swaddling just across the chest with arms free, and of course she woke up thrashing around. I need some sort of solution that will hold down her arms, yet is unable to be pulled over her head. I've tried those easy swaddlers things that look like a little sleeping bag, but they're never tight enough and she gets her arms free within minutes. Help! I know this girl has the ability to STTN, but I'm not about to let her pull her blankets over her head! Do they make baby straight jackets, lol?

Thanks ladies! I just looked up your recommendations online and they look very good. But it does say that those swaddlers are only recommended until 14 weeks. Is that the case for you, or did you continue using them after that?

Yes. It's called the Miracle Blanket and it totally is a miracle. Changed our lives! Both the girls needed a swaddle but could break out of everything else.

This! DH calls it her straight jacket. We switched to this when she started breaking free of a regular swaddle and she definitely can't get out of the miracle blanket.

Soooooo this. DD was so small for so long that we didn't even start using it until 3.5mo, and then we used it until we stopped swaddling altogether at a little after 5mo.  (We used the Halo SwaddleMes before that, but was starting to break out when we switched to the MB.)

  • The miracle blanket was awesome. We used it until he was about 5 months and then could break out of it. It was the best blanket for sleeping. If I have another baby I'll be buying more of them.

We've been using the Halo SwaddleSacks too and I must say we had a better time with the fleece ones than his current cotton one. This one is a lot easier for him to get out of. He still sleeps lots and lots better in it than out of it so we'll keep using it until he grows out of it.

  • We used the Halo Swaddle sacks as well. I think we used them until he was like 5 months old. Every once in a while he would break out when I didn't get it right enoug but that was rare. Right when we were weaning him of them he started breaking loose a little more frequently. I swore by them when he was young.
