Paci

DS didn't take a paci as a newborn so we just quit trying to give him one. Last week I was cleaning up his room and found a package of pacis for 9 months and just gave it to him to play with. Well now he will crawl with his paci and he seems to really like it. I started giving it to him at night when getting him ready for bed since he hates it and its helped him with that too. Should I quit giving it to him so I don't start the habit this late in the game? Thought?

I have to say he's so cute sucking on it lol!

Re: Paci

  • I don't see anything wrong with it, especially if it's just for sleep.

Pacis have been a life saver for naps.

  • If he only takes it at night, I wouldn't think it's a big deal.  If it helps him sleep, go for it.

  • LO only uses a paci for night and naps. she spits it out as soon as she falls asleep. if it helps I don't see a problem. some kids like them, some dont

  • I don't see a problem with it. We started limiting paci use and then a wonder week hit and it was the only thing that soothed him so he's back to using it for now.
  • We are trying to get rid of ours. We limit it to only nap, and bedtime. Next week, though, we are ditching it.

Our Dr said to get rid of it by 16 months. That's 8 months of good sleep thanks to a paci. Lol

  • I say don't stress over it and let LO have it. My LO hasn't used one really since birth and the other day found one in the toy box and loved playing/sucking on it. Go figure.

  • DS always feels the need to have a paci in his mouth even when he's happy.  We are constantly taking it out of his mouth and the miraculously he'll find one and plop it back in.  I dread the day when we start weaning.  Maybe it will be easier to wean him later since he just started taking it.

  • I don't see a problem with it. If it is helping with bedtime, then let him have it. My ds has been using one since 3 weeks old and I have no intention with taking it away anytime soon. It soothes and comforts him.

  • I would quit while you're ahead. DS is ridiculously addicted to his pacifier...as in he carries one in his mouth and one in hand at all times. Weaning him from them is going to be a biitch. I wouldn't want to wean from something I didn't have to in the first place, KWIM?

Yup I agree.  Don't start a habit you'll regret and have to break later.  If he does fine now without one, no need now.  I was weaning my ODS from the paci at 11 months.  I didn't want the fight later.  Its like CIO all over again.

  • Thanks ladies. My dh says the same thing. I will make sure we limit it for sure!
