My husband and I have been trying for 14 months, with one BFP followed by miscarriage after 6 months of trying. After RE work-up the doc thought I had a hydorsalpinx, so I went in for salppingectomy... come to find out I didnt have a hydrosalpinx, just a diverticulum in my tube. So he cleaned up some endometriosis.
If I had a salpingectomy than the RE was recommending IVF, however, now that I still have my tubes he is recommending IUI and Clomid.
I am pretty sure I ovulate every month ( at least that is what the OPK says). I am terrified about the idea of multiples.
Does anyone know how IUI makes clomid more effective?
Re: Clomid with or without IUI
The decision ultimately depends on what your comfortable with. We did 2 rounds of clomid with TI, but that was bc DH refused to pursue "more invasive" treatments at that time (we had 2 losses that were both before meds or IUI).
Good luck with your decision.
TTC since July 2011
BFP #1: 2/15/12-Ectopic/Mtx at 6 wks
BFP #2: 10/12/12-m/c at 5 wks.
Me: MTHFR, Low AMH (1.1), High NK cells and Antiphospholipid Antibodies.
IVF with ICSI in August 2013 brought us our babies. ER-9R, 7M, 4F w/ICSI ET of 2-Grade 2 blasts.
Dx shortened cervix, PTL, and preeclampsia during pregnancy. Lots of medications and 13 weeks of bedrest, babies were born healthy at 34w4d!
We personally went straight to Clomid + IUI.
IUI can help overcome hostile CM or minor MFI, because the semen is placed directly into the uterus, bypassing the cervix completely. Clomid can also make your CM less than ideal. IUI also helps get more swimmers into the uterus.
We have some issues with possibly hostile CM. My RE has did several post coital tests and they have all come back bad. For us it just seemed right to go straight to IUIs, but really it's a personal choice.
As far as being afraid of multiples, clomid really doesn't increase your risk that much. Also you should be monitored, so if you were to have more follies than you are comfortable with you (or your RE) can decide to cancel your cycle. GL.
