Success after IF

Would You ...

Go on a (possibly) bumpy boat ride while pregnant?

I decided I didn't want to go out to Boston for our anniversary because I had a hard time leaving the kids last time I went on vacation so my husband booked a sunset cruise on a yacht.  It's two hours long.

My first thought was that it sounds fun.  My second thought was what if it's really windy or something and it's a rocky ride?

Am I over thinking this?  Or is this a bad idea?

Re: Would You ...

  • You should totally go. If you are worried just try to stay seated most of the time. How sweet of YH for booking it.

I think it sounds fine. As long as the water isn't very choppy I think a yacht should be fine. I thought you were referring to a speedboat first and that would be a no no IMO. I once made the mistake of sitting up front in a speedboat and my bum paid the price.

  • Ohmigosh!  Ha!  No!  Not a speedboat.  Just a regular yacht/big, fancy boat.

I got all paranoid after going on a ridiculously bumpy hayride with the kids last weekend (I'm crazy) and now I'm thinking we should just do something else.

    Hm ...

  • As far as safety goes I'd say you are probably just fine. My worry would be more related to any potential vomiting or pregnancy related incontinence from all that bumping around!!

  • Sweetie, you know I love you but yea, this is crazy.  Have you driven on Capitol Drive lately?  I think a YACHT ride would be fine.

(I agree that a speed boat would be nuts.  My husband talked me into some crazy speed boat, tidal basin/rapids ride when we were in Canada and I broke my tail bone.  It was horrible!)

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

The above made me laugh. I take that Capitol Dr. when I'm working in Milwaukee.  I had the hardest time on some of the streets in Madison while pregnant because the bumps would make me have to pee, lol.

I took a dinner cruise very early in my pregnancy with the triplets.  My only problem was nausea, although I had severe m/s anyway, so who knows if it was because of the boat or not.  I just made sure to have lots of ginger gum on hand.   Go on the cruise and have a great time!

LOL YES!  I have.  Those pot holes are RIDICULOUS.  And please believe I think about bouncing around when I'm driving too (I make it no secret that I am crazy pregnant person).

I was freaking out after we went on what felt like an off road hay ride at that stupid petting farm in Waterford last weekend (it had rained the day before so we were bouncing all over the place and fish tailing ... it was actually kinda scary) so when my husband told me that he booked a private, sunset cruise on a yacht (no, not the wussy Edelweiss that goes like 5mph ... an actual nice, big, boat) all I could think about was what if there were really bad white caps or something that day?!

Okay.  The more I read people's responses and type this out the more I realize that I need to just relax and enjoy the evening away and stop being so batsh!tcrazy for once in my pregnant life.

  • I did at about 22w. I was feeling well and J loved the motion! She kicked the whole time! If you are feeling unwell or the weather is bad, I'm sure pregnancy will execerbate seasickness.
