Riddle vs. Lankenau?

Hi, I just found out I'm pg and need to find an ob/gyn. We just moved here from out of state last year so I hadn't gotten around to finding a new doctor. We live in Media so Riddle is the closest hospital, but all my neighbors say Lankenau is the place to deliver. All the doctors though who are affiliated with Lankenau are pretty far away, and I know how often those doctor appts are (this would be my third child). Has anyone delivered at Riddle? How was your experience? And do you have an Ob/gyn that you liked (preferably female)?

Thanks!

Hi, I am in nursing school and did my maternity clinical at riddle. I was with dr. Lobos proactice, he is out of riddle but doesn't deliver anymore, when I found out I was pregnant. After doing my clinical at riddle I chose to change to women for women through lankeneu. Their NICU is one of the top in the area in case anything were to happen! Also, riddle has about 75 births per year, where as Lankeneu has 260 something! Riddle was very clean, the nurses were great etc. but I wanted to go to Lankeneu because they are known for maternity. I had my my baby may 1 and my experience was great!

Sorry for all the grammar errors. Currently bfing while typing!

I go to the McConnell Group, their office is located in Lankenau Hospital.  There are 4 doctors who rotate so you get a chance to meet everyone and they're all very nice.

I delivered my last baby at Lankenau (my OB/GYN was male, sorry).

It was a great experience -- nurses were good and very helpful, place was clean, food was actually quite good, etc. I recommend it.

My only complaint (and this is a biggie) was my anesthesiologist for my C-section, which obviously I was not able to pick, did a horrible job. Long story short, after an extremely painful time getting the needle in my back for my spinal, the spinal did not work on the left side of my body, but despite my telling him this, they went through with the surgery anyway -- and I ended up feeling the operation on the left side of my body. Yeah, I was screaming on the table the whole time, until they got the baby out and were able to give me super strong stuff that basically knocked me out.

Can't recommend their anesthesiologists, but otherwise, the staff was wonderful.

I hope you enjoy Media!  We just moved from there to Atlanta YESTERDAY! If you want to know anything about the area, let me know!

I delivered at Riddle last summer.  I couldn't have asked for a better experience.  I mostly saw Dr Shima, (male) but Dr. Seeney (female) and Marie Eisner-Oaks are also amazing.  Shima did my c-section; the surgery went beautifully, I healed beautifully, and I think he did a wonderful job.

I'm happy to hear such great words about Shima and Seeney.. that's who I'm going to see while I'm in Philadelphia for 2 months

The nurses at Riddle were wonderful!  They were attentive, funny, supportive, and everything I could have asked for.  We even brought small gifts for them a week later because I was so grateful.  I was having an awful time BF'ing and one nurse stayed up for almost 2 hrs with me in the middle of the night to help me and make sure it was going ok.  The nurse in the OR was everything I needed: sometimes reassuring, sometimes fading into the woodwork so I could have a moment with DH, sometimes informative.

There is a great pediatric practice (Providence Pediatrics) that we used which is associated with Riddle, and they came right to the hospital so we wouldn't have to make a separate appointment.

I know Lankenau is usually people's go-to birth place, but I would go back to Riddle in a heartbeat. :)

Also, I should add that the assistants in the OB office and even the receptionist took the time to know my name, my baby's name, and to check in on us.

YES!  Riddle OB is the practice I go to as well.  Dr. Shima delivered my son and him and my husband were joking and having a great time.  It actually helped keep me calm.  Dr. Seeney did my son's circumcision and she did a great job  :)

Had a wonderful birth experience at Riddle!   The nurses are amazing....Nurse Washington was a godsent.  I would love to be able to request her next time as well.  And the anesthesiologist, GOD BLESS THAT MAN, Richard O'Flynn (of course I remembered his name) was fantastic also.

I would go back to Riddle again!

I happen to live 3 miles from the new Einstein and am choosing to drive 45 minutes to Lankenau. I see Dr Almonte female and Dr Bailey and couldn't imagine going elsewhere. Dr Scott Bailey is my primary OB and it is just the two of them in the practice. Nurses are so kind and top notch docs and hospital. This has been my experience as I have no experience with Riddle. I'm a first time mom due in December

I also use the McConnell practice at Lankenau and delivered my daughter there.  They were amazing and I love all the doctors in McConnell's practice.

Women for Women or Dr. Bailey are both great and out of Lankenau.  I am a doula and have worked with them both.  It really depends on what type of birth experience you are hoping to have.  You have done this twice before, so hopefully that will be a help in choosing who you think will be the best fit.  Remember...You can always switch care providers if you feel that there is not a good/compatible connection.

I just had my first at riddle, and use mainline health ob/gyn. I couldn't of asked for a better experience. Dr.Xu delivered my little girl, and Dr.Hyatt is my gyn. If you do go with a main gyn, go with Dr.Kuroki, she's super nice!

I've been through 2 pregnancies with Lawrence Park OB/GYN.  I want to hug Dr. Heinzel everytime I see him.  He is amazingly kind and does everything he can to make the mom's wishes a number one priority.  I was easy going and told him that I was completely in his hands but 2 of my cousins went to him because of my experience and they were not so easy going and yet they love him as well.  There are two other doctors in the practice...Dr. Laveran who has been there forever and I have seen several times and love....and they just hired a female doctor who I haven't had the chance to meet.  They all deliver at Lankenau.  After being birthing coach for a friend at a different hospital I can safely say that Lankenau is one of the best.  I've only not liked one nurse (and for me that's huge) and as soon as I mentioned it to Dr. Heinzel, she was replaced as my nurse right away.

I was very happy to hear that Lawrence Park also has a pediatrician's office right down the hall.  Broomall Pediatrics.  I cannot say enough wonderful things about this practice.  I have a few friends who go there as well and they all have their favs.  I think there are at least 6 doctors on staff right now and I could throw a stone and hit a great one.  My fav is Dr. Lavoe.  I never have a hard time getting in for same day appointments, they have non emergency walk in every weekday morning before they officially open and I think they are talking about opening for a few hours on Sunday.  They are already open for 4 or 5 hours on Saturday.

    Good luck!
