Hey all,
I was wondering if you would be willing to post your daily schedule for your six month olds (or the schedule from when your babies were that age).
We are really struggling to fit in the nursing sessions, naps, and solid food feedings while still having the babies in their cribs at a reasonable time! Most of the problem is related to not being able to get the babies to nap on a schedule, which then throws everything else off.
Thanks!
Re: Daily schedule--6 months old
I feel your frustration as we are also struggling to get them to nap during the day, at this point I'll take any naps schedule or no schedule. Lol!
My boys will be 6 months old on Monday and our day looks something like this
They wake up usually between 5 and 6AM and we have bottles. Somewhere between 7 and 8 AM they typically go back to sleep for an hour. We have breakfast (solids) around 8:30 and then another bottle. They play until around 10:30/11 and then we start the nap battle, they are noticeably tired but fight sleep so usually they are down around noon. We get typically an hour of sleep and then they are up. We have another bottle and play until about 3PM. They do take another nap between 3 and 5, this is the much easier nap and don't have as hard a time getting them to sleep. They have another solid food meal around 5:30, I try to have them at the table when we eat so they can get used to that, and a bottle. Then we play, every other night they have baths and typically their bed time bottle (we put cereal in this) happens around 8:30 and they are in bed by 9PM.
We are getting a good amount of sleep and although they do fight the morning nap they are pretty happy the rest of the day.
Good luck!
My guys are almost 6 mo, and our day usually looks like this (the times can vary up to an hour, as you'll notice, based on when they wake up and how long their naps last):
6:30/7:30: Wake up, get dressed, bottle and solids (cereal and fruit), play a little until naptime (they usually get sleepy pretty quickly)
8:30/9:30: Nap 1.5-2 hrs (2 hrs if I'm super lucky) then play until next feeding
11/12: Bottle and more play until naptime
12:30/1:30: Second nap. This one can last anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half
3ish: Bottle and solids (fruit and veggie)
4:30ish: Catnap (half hour-hour) to avoid pre-bedtime meltdowns (sometimes we melt down anyway....)
5:30/6: Play with Daddy when he gets home, sit with us at dinner
6:30: Bedtime routine (bath, PJs, bottle), down by 7 PM
As far as their naps go, my rule of thumb is that they need to go down absolutely no later than 2 hours after waking up from the last nap (usually it's more like an hour and a half) so they don't get overtired and fight the sleep. If one baby wakes up before the other, and has slept at least an hour, I'll get him out of his crib but make sure to wake up the other twin within 20 minutes so they don't get too out of sync. Every once in a while we have one of those days when one baby sleeps so much worse than the other, but since they have the same bedtime, the system gets "reset" daily.
HTH!
