  • The only first name on your list that I can stand is Easton.

  • Honestly....I don't like any of them.

  • I like Holden out of your boys names.  Is Noel an option for a first name for a girl?
  • Isn't tennyson exclusively a boy name?I am not a fan of your girl names, sorry.

I'm a fan of Cather in the Rye, so I have a soft spot for Holden. I also kind of like Easton, but haven't really heard it used as a first name before.
  • Ivory Noel ... Makes me think of the soap. How about Ivy?
Emerson Lee ... son on the end of a name means its a boys name.
    Tennyson Lee ... see above.

    Boy
Brander Jacob ... never heard of this.
Holden Jacob ... I like Holden, but not the alliteration with your last name.
Easton Merrill ... NMS, but probably the best out of your choices.

I used to be a big deal.  Now I'm just old.
  • Love Holden! Emerson for a girl.

  • I like Emerson and Easton.

  • I love classic boy names for girls, and see nothing wrong with choosing one if we have a daughter. There are names that are popular for boys today that were historically used only for girls. My DH and I aren't fans of cookie cutter names that everyone and their cousin has like Ava, Lilly, Michael, Ryan.. One thing we both loved about these names is I haven't met one person with this names, besides Emerson. I appreciate all your opinions, like I said I was just curious. All that matters is my hubby and I love the name. My first name is very unique and I've only met 1 other person my whole life that had my name and that's something I love about my name! Thanks again for your thoughts!

I don't care for any of the girl's names.

The only boy name that I like is Holden.

WTF is Brander?  Like someone who brands cows?

  • If you are having a little girl, she should have a beautiful name and I do not appreciate the names you have chosen. Tennyson is terrible and not girly at all. Ivy would be better than Ivory. Brander is not a name- it's just not.
  • I love Holden and Easton great picks!
I like Emerson too. I agree with maybe switching Ivory to Ivy. Ivy Noel sounds better to me!

Here's the issue. You're not the one living with the name. Your daughter is. She's the one who will have to explain to people that her parents obviously wanted a boy but were stuck with her instead. She's the one who will be called names and teased as she's trying to navigate that awkward and cruel phase known as "adolesence in high school."

Can you name one? I've never heard
of a name traditionally used for females that is now used for males. I can think of several names that have moved in the opposite direction, but they all sound really dated now and aren't currently used. How many Leslies and Carols under the age of 10 do you know?

I can respect that sentiment, in fact you'll find many women on this board who feel the same. But there's a difference between picking a unique name like Carys or Odin and picking a name that is made up or commonly used by the opposite sex.

Nothing says cookie cutter like a trend on fire...that is what boy names on girls is...a blazing trend. If you want to be unique then you should probably look a bit more. I like different names but there is a difference between unusual and ridiculous.

  • I am all for expressing ones opinion, and I appreciate the ones that most of you have said. Maybe I just was raised with a higher respect towards others than some, but in my opinion, some of your responses are extremely rude. I posted this with the full awareness that I was going to have people say some nasty things, because, yes, some of these names are made up and perhaps not to everyone's liking.

Even if I chose to name my child something like Jonathan or Sara, they would probably still get teased in school because people who were not raised in a home where they were taught to treat others the way they would like to be treated, will always put others down. The prettiest of names means nothing if the person behind it has an unkind, ugly personality.

I wish nothing but the best on you, your pregnancies and your children, I appreciate the honest thoughts.
  • Ivory Noel:  best of the bunch, but not a favorite by a long shot

Emerson Lee:  sounds masculine, my first guess would be it's a boy

    Tennyson Lee:  again, sounds masculine

Brander Jacob:  like Jacob, wonder where Brander came from

Holden Jacob:  Holden is a popular Australian-made car company and I can;t get past the car

Easton Merrill:  Love Merrill, can tolerate Easton

So if you already made up your mind about some of these choices, why did you ask for opinions? No one is being rude. The posters are expressing opinions, which you asked for...

But you won't choose a classic girl name for your son.  Though you claim it's happened, I can think of almost no cases of this, and I hear a lot of people say they want to give their daughters "strong" boy names but almost no one say they want to give their sons "sensitive" girl names or whatever.  You know what those kind of names say to me?  They say that the parents think masculine qualities are superior to feminine qualities, and that the way for a woman to succeed in this world is to take on the qualities of a man rather than realizing the full potential of her qualities as a woman.  I'm sure you don't think it's sexist, but it screams sexist to me, and as someone who has a feminine name and gave her daughter one, that's not how I was raised and that's not how I'm going to raise my daughter.  You seem like a very thoughtful person, so I hope you will think through what exactly you are telling your daughter and the world when you give her a masculine name.  A name doesn't necessarily communicate the thing you were trying to say, it says what people understand it to mean.

  • I like Holden and Jacob..  the rest nms
  • I don't really like any of the girl choices. Holden and Easton are okay. Emerson is definitely more of a boy name to me.
