Right now I'm fantasizing about Swedish names [Hence the Sanna post].
I had a question about Lis/Lise because in Swedish [I looked this up, I don't speak Swedish] Lis is pronounced like lease and Lise is pronounced like leasa. Also, Sanna is pronounced more like ah na with an S.
That being said, do you like:
Sanna [mobile hyphen] Lis
Or...
Nadja [mobile hyphen] Lis?
Would using Swedish names like this be weird on a non Swedish person? Would you spell Lis as Lise for it to be easier for saying it in non Swedish/Scandinavian places [i.e. the US]?
BTW, this would be a hypothetical Swedish baby, I guess. I just like names [and experimenting with names from other cultures]
Sorry of anything is wrong or spacing is odd, I'm mobile bumping.
Re: Swedish Names
i think sanna would be fine for enlish speakers.
how do you pronounce nadja?
really, though, i think you should name your kid whatever you want. people will get used to it or have to deal.
Basically like Nadia, but smoosh the ending sound together a bit, like "nahdyuh", rather than "nah dee ah"

I didn't know the hyphen was a big thing! That's news to me, haha. I just think the first names would sound nice paired with Lis/Lise.
I think one that could work would be Annalise, which is pronounced Annah-lisa. It is super pretty and very Scandinavian

Here's my predicament! Lol. I don't like the leesa sound. I like it when it's plain lees/lease sounding. :[
My name is Lis, pronounced "Lease". I can tell you that it is never pronounced correctly. I have a distinct memory of the first time someone said it correctly on the first try. I was in the sixth grade. It has only been pronounced correctly a handful of times since then on the first try. At least once a day I have to tell someone, it is like Lisa without the a, no it isn't Liz with an s, or Lissss (rhymes with hiss, the most common error). I lucked out with an easy, Scandinavian, last name.
That being said, I love my name. It fits me, and I like that I have never met someone in real life with the same name as me. Once people know how to pronounce it, I get told what a beautiful name I have all of the time.
You are so lucky to have an easy Scandi last name! Mine has one vowel, a "v", a "k" and some "s"es, among others. It is a biitch to explain on the phone. And no one, for some reason, even our friends, can say it right. My maiden name was no better - it was a common German last name, only spelled different than the way most people spell it. I cruised from one hard LN to another!
