We're taking two weeks to visit family, mine then DH's - in July. DD will turn two years old on this trip. It will be the only time I am consistantly with DD during the day until our next vacation in October. So I'd like to start potty training. DH and I will have more time than usual to sit with her, take her to the bathroom whenever she asks etc. We enjoy out time with our families, but it's definately a slower pace than our normal (borderline hectic) lives. I think this could work....
She's showing many signs that she's ready for focused potty training. She likes the little seat we put on the toilet, as opposed to a training potty. She thinks it's fun to sit on the potty, and often goes a few hours with a dry diaper.
Has anyone else done toilet training away from home? Any regrets? Any success stories?
Re: toilet trainingn on a low-key vacation - ok?
I'd be more concerned with the accidents in someone else's house. When we started potty training we took away the diapers and went straight to underware. We plied her with liquids and had her pee her patns a few times so she was able to learn how it felt when she had to go. Plus it was potty time every half hour, that might be too much if you're constantly taking your LO to the potty - especially with all the excitement and changes to schedule and new people.
I'd wait if you can. maybe do it over a long holiday weekend?
There's no way I would try it. On vacation, kids get all off schedule and there's so much going on that I wouldn't add one more potentially stressful thing to the mix. Plus, I think any time you're out of the house, it's difficult.
But neither of my kids was ready to train right when they turned 2, either.
October isn't very far away, sadly!
I agree with the bold. We did three day PT by lori Jensen and those three days were absolute he!! for me. It was being attached to her 24/7 for three days, no going out, no cooking dinner, no getting laundry done, and definitely no hanging out with friends/family just watching her like a hawk (and yes there were accidents during those three days). It was totally worth it in the end, but I wouldn't do it when I was trying to relax on vacation.
i went the pull up route, so no worries about accidents. We went to disney while potty training. He actually did really well! When they are ready you'll know. Pretty much overnight DS decided to use the potty. We stayed in pull ups about 3 months and he told us he wanted to quit wearing them. We were pretty laid back about it. The whole "let them pee their underwear" thing never worked for him. He really didn't seem to care if he was wet lol.
