Nursery Colors

I was just curious what colors you will be doing for the nursery.  I am thinking I will do grey and yellow but my DH isn't sure about yellow in case I have a boy.. (and the nursery will pretty much be the bedroom when he/she gets older).  What other neutral colors would work good, should I go away from grey??  What colors are you doing?

And then for the bedding its kind of just the fitted sheet and maybe a waterproof mattress pad is that correct?  FTM--obviously :)

Re: Nursery Colors

  • We'll be doing grey walls and light pink accents for a girl and light blue for a boy (but the walls will be a light grey so the room remains neutral). I'm a big fan of the chevron styline and clean lines, so that's the route we're going. I think you can still do grey walls with yellow accents no matter what gender.

There's also possibly a crib skirt, bumper, etc. not just the sheet. Depends on what you want and what kind of crib you get! Good luck from one FTM to another.

  • I agree.  Yellow and grey could go for either gender.  My plan was to paint the walls a pale lime green (Benjamin Moore's fresh cut grass) and accent with navy for a boy or lavender for a girl.  So...we are NAVY and LIME!  www.sheetworld.com has super cute sheets in chevron stripes in all kinds of colors.  I'm doing the lime chevron and the navy crib skirt from there.

  • We are thinking grey with accents of bright orange and then if we have a girl we will add a bright pink and a boy we will add aqua
  • I love grey and navy for a boy and grey and coral for a girl! I think all three colors could be used for both genders just more navy for boy more coral for girl.
  • I decided on a striped room with green and ivory. I wanted something to transition well for future LOs or to grow up in. I originally wanted to do a Winnie the Pooh, but I think I just want to go with boy or girl accents so the room is easier to transition to the next stage of life. IDK I'm overall undecided. All I know is the paint which I plan to work on (while the room is well ventilated of course in July or August.

I know I definitely decided against the crib bumper, but I would like a skirt and a comforter (for decoration).

I really haven't given much thought to it! I still have like 5 months to decide I guess Smile Oh and I'm a FTM as well

  • A sage green color on the walls and either purple or blue accents depending on baby's sex.

  • We are having a girl and she is moving into or sons former room. Grey walls, black crib, grey/white chevron sheets and accents of either aqua or coral. I am not into a pink/purple princess nursery, so it will be one she can grow with.
  • We will be doing light blue walls.  I love the color blue and was planning on using it for boy or girl, but we are having a boy so now it will be more fitting.    DD's room is yellow and I love the color in there.

  • This is our 3rd child... and a complete shock!  (LOL) My 15 year old daughter will be giving up her lime green room to us.  (its the largest bedroom in our home)  We will be repainting the walls a soft yellow.  We purchased the crib already- white.  I wanted white to match our bedroom furniture as Avery will be in with us for the first few years.  I am planing on doing chevron stripes behind the crib in white and will be making the dust ruffle and other bedding in pink, yellow, aqua and lime green.  DH thinks that she will be rooming in with us but in reality we will be rooming in with her.

  • The nursery was already painted Benjamin Moore "Limestone", which is a very very light color, almost off white with a green undertone. It is super neutral. I'm too lazy to paint, so it is staying that way. The rest of the nursery will mostly be natural wood, navy and white, with some other reds and other colors here and there. But mostly navy and white.

Re: the bedding. We're registered for 2 crib sheets, 1 crib skirt and 2 waterproof mattress pads. We also have a blanket, which will be used on the rocker until the kid is old enough to actually use it.

We are doing orange, aqua, and mint green.

This will be a shared room between DD and the baby for a short period of time since we are moving next year.

  • We hope to find out the sex this week. The room is already painted a light aqua blue -- very peaceful shade. For a girl, I'm thinking accents in red and white. For a boy, I'm leaning towards gray and yellow. But I also like the really colorful nurseries that have lots of jewel tones represented. We'll see!

  • I think yellow and grey are both fine and gender neutral.

We haven't decided yet if we are painting but I doubt we will. The walls are beige, and pretty boring. We're doing a music/rock n roll themed nursery and the decor itself it going to be pretty colorful. He's getting a little red baby piano, a lot of DH's guitars will be attached to the wall, etc. I think keeping a pretty bland color will keep if from looking too busy.

  • We are having our boys share a room.  Our nursery is a dark blue with white furniture and lime green accents.  I LOVE it and the colors.  It all looks very crisp and clean.  Here are a few pictures:

  • We turned our office into LO's nursery. It was already painted a chocolate brown and were keeping it brown. I got a French provincial dresser for 50 bucks and am refinishing it and throwing a change pad on top. I'm going to stain the top to match the crib, espresso, and paint the rest ivory. Ill be doing the same for the side table. I got a really nice quilt that had brown yellow beige and light ivory in it and am using it as my starting point. We're having a boy so I think that this is perfect. I'm not a fan of jungle or barn animals on most bedding for boys.

This is us exactly. Grey chevron with touches of light pink or lavender for a girl or mint green, robins egg blue  or baby blue for a boy!

  • We will not know the gender either, and decided to go with yellow, grey, and mint. I just can't decide on a black crib, or espresso color...decisions! Ha
  • When I first started looking at decorating the nursery, I knew I wanted to do something western.  I originally thought I wanted to do a black and white cow print with a solid accent color, like yellow or lime green.  My DH didn't really like either idea and kept asking if we could have blue in the nursery.  We are on Team Green, so I was reluctant to use blue as the accent color.  The next morning, I woke up early with a bright idea and couldn't get back to sleep.  I just ordered the fabrics, and I think my DH and I both got our wishes.  The walls and furniture will both be white.  I am crafty, so I knew I wanted to custom-make something so we could save some $$.  I will be making a crib skirt, a crib quilt, a matching skirt for the twin bed that will stay in the room, curtains, and some wall decorations.  Here are the fabrics we chose:

  • We're doing very light blue grey walls with a slightly darker blue ceiling. We're going to stencil gold painted stars on the ceiling and have a white glass globe lamp in the center of the ceiling on a dimmer like the moon:. I'm a fan of color so our accents will be a bright kilim rug, a colorful quilt on a dusty orange chair and African market baskets for toys etc...on the floor. Furniture will be simple pine. Having a boy by the way!
