Ear Infection?

Ok, so here's the story - 

 My LO scratched the inside of ear a few weeks or so ago - and it was healing - so I thought maybe he was rubbing his ears because they itched because of the healing.

I think he may also pull on his ears when sleepy but now I'm wondering if it is an ear infection.

I'm calling the doctor on Monday but until then - how do you know?

    For us, pulling on the ears wsn't reliable because he did that a lot. Each time he has had one, there have been 3 episodes, he screamed when you went to lay him down. And the first 2 he was inconsolable. 3rd one wasn't as obvious but you could tell he was off.

    DD 2 did the same thing with scratching the inside of her ears...two or three times we took her in as we suspected an infection as DD 1 had many and ended up with tubes,   Turns out every time we brought her in it was just fluid in her ear but never got infected.

    LO had an ear infection a couple weeks ago and never once pulled on her ears.  She spiked a fever and the doctor found the infection when we took her in.

    When my LO had an ear infection, he had a cold first.  He had a runny nose for a couple of weeks, some coughing.  Then one day he suddenly spiked a fever of 101 degrees.  He started refusing his bottles, only drinking half or less than half of what he normally would.  That's when I took him in and found out it was an ear infection.

    My little guy had some cold symptoms and pulled on his ears a few times.  He is also getting his first tooth.  I brought him in to see if was an ear infection.  Luckily it wasn't and it was only teething and a cold.  I read that babies can't tell where pain is coming from while teething so they can pull at their ears.  I think it never hurts to get checked out though.  Better safe than sorry.
