Final Cortlandt update....

After 4 and a half hours in the ER they agreed to do the cat scan but wouldn't sedate him. So they had us not feed him after 8 am and couldn't get us a room until noon only to have him wait another 4 and a half hours for NOTHING!!! Cue angry pregnant lady as Cortlandt is begging to eat and had been crying for an hour!

Next comes the lovely CT! I carry him down stairs and when they bring us in they inform me that they will be strapping him into a bean bag type device and sucking the air out if it so he won't be able to move! I tell them he has sensory processing disorder and has been through enough and ask if they can at least give him something to calm him down. The TW of a tech tells me he will be fine meanwhile he is already sobbing and screaming as this thing tightens around him! She then asks if I'm pregnant I say yes and she tells me I must leave! I informed her I will wear a vest and I've already held him down for Xrays so the supposed 1 to 2 minutes of radiation doesn't scare me. Another tech goes to grab a vest and she tells me "no I have to leave end of story"! I am fuming by this point as Cortlandt is shaking and screaming!

I listened and went outside the door thinking it would be over quick....WRONG! Apparently after doing the cat scan which took 45 seconds she decided to keep my still screaming child strapped in while she waited for the images and doctor to come look! Another tech saw me outside and I must have looked ready to kill someone because she told me they should be done in 10 minutes or so....WTF!!!! She also informed me that the TW tech was complaining about Cortlandt crying! HELLO I told you he has sensory issues!!!!

When they finally let me back in after 10 minutes I told her to fuuuuuck off and that I would be complaining on her!!!!!! I am still sick to my stomach from listening to him cry that long!

The ENT evaluated the CT and said he sees a lot of inflammation and infection and doesn't "think" he sees the bead. He prescribed another week of antibiotics!

I am soooooooo over it all and refuse to put him through any other trauma! I am praying these antibiotics clear up the infection and that the bead makes its appearance and isn't truly in his sinuses!

If you have made it this far you deserve a stiff drink lord knows I want one right now!

Re: Final Cortlandt update....

  • Oh, poor kiddo! It sucks so bad to hear them crying so desperatly and not being able to make them feel better. Hang in there, that dang bead will show up soon enough and this will just be a memory.

  • Thanks guys I am still so upset over the whole thing! I will be sure to let you guys know when "hopefully" this dang bead shows up! Thanks for listening to all of these posts it really does help when you feel completely alone in a situation like this!
  • Oh you poor thing!  And poor C!!!

We had to do some awful tests with Em where they didn't sedate her and strapped her down in horrible positions.  I can't imagine having to do that knowing your child has SPD...and then having a TW tech who makes you leave.  I'm crying over how you both must have felt.  I'm so sorry that you and C were treated so abominably.  I wish I could wrap you both in a giant hug.

I hope this round of antibiotics does it for him.  If it doesn't, can you take him back to the ENT that ordered the CT scan to begin with?

I feel like this whole ordeal needs numerous complaint letters.  The tech at the hospital, the guy that wouldn't do the CT when the ENT had ordered it...so many messed up turns.

Keeping you both in my thoughts.  Let us know how the antibiotics work.

If it doesn't clear up we will be going to HIS ENT who has been out of town for the past 2 weeks which is why we have been passed around so much. DH is going to complain to the BBB about the ENT who refused to order the CT and I will be contacting the TW techs supervisor tomorrow after I have calmed down a little bit. I feel bad that he has had to suffer so much over people's stupidity! We took him to target and he got a whole crap load of "we are sorry" presents and he seems to be ok now but I'm sure we will have trouble going to ANY doctor for the next few years!

I'm very familiar with the "we're so sorry" presents!  Em had a lot of anxiety around anyone in a lab coat or scrubs for a while, but that seems to have abated as the memory fades.  Hopefully C will forget all these douche nuggets very quickly.

Will you let us know if you get any apologies from the idiots you've had to deal with?

  • Wow. You and your poor son has been through so much. I am tearing reading through it. Sorry it has been so rough. Hope the infection will come down with antibiotics. Give him a lot of love tonight.

And I would write a complain about this tech - medical staff can be so unbelievably mean!

  • Wow, you have been through a lot. You did great despite horribly insensitive staff. Fingers crossed that this last round of meds does the trick.

  • That is horrible!  I can only imagine how stressed out both of you were.  I hope that Cortlandt finally starts to feel better so you can be done with the doctor visits and procedure.  Sending T&P your way.

Oh gosh, I can't believe you had to deal with all of that I'm so sorry!nbsp; I sure hope you report that tech, how insanely ridiculous.nbsp; Where the eff do they think the bead went??nbsp; That he wound up swallowing it?

They are hoping that its just somewhere in his GI tract and will come out eventually! As long as it doesn't cause infection anywhere in his body we are done searching and just praying to see it soon!
