Right now ours in the middle, but that's only because the passenger door doesn't always unlock and I didn't want it behind me. When I get a bigger vehicle, it will go on the passenger side more than likely.

  • DD in a convertible behind the driver and Ds's infant seat behind the passenger. I moved DD to the side when I was pregnant because I had to get in the backseat to buckle her in when I was pregnant.

Edit I choose the drivers side because I park on the right side of the garage and it is a right squeeze to get anyone in and out of the passenger side. I now have to pull out of the garage to put DS in the car.

  • Driver's side. I figured, if I'm in an accident, my instincts will lead me to protect the side of the car that I'm on, so I want DD on the same side. It's also more convenient for getting her in and out.

One is on passenger side, one is on driver's side...because of how our cars fit in the garage. I like passenger side better because I can reach her and because it's better if you park on the street to open that door.

This is 100% true. If you have to pick a side the driver's side is supposed to be safest.

  • It is fine to use a belt install in the middle. We have our convertible in the middle because I feel it is safer and it gives the front passengers more legroom.

It is a good idea to become proficient at all kinds of installs because you are going to have to do it a lot, especially if you travel by plane and bring a seat.

This! Also, please check your cars owners manual for installation locations. Some cars DO NOT want car seats in the middle spot. Please check!

That's what I was hoping for. But my car has a weird way that the middle seat bows out, and it just won't get a good fit.

My car has a little bump in the middle, and with the seatbelt install, the seat is actually slightly tilted (left side of the seat is a bit lower than the right).  The carseat installation person said it has to be like this in order to get the shoulder belt part tight enough.

After we got home, I went on line to see if others had this issue.  I read that instead of locking the shoulder belt (which is under tension and causing the tilt), one can use the locking clip instead.  That way, the shoulder belt can be slightly laxed and won't cause the tilt.  [it's the lap belt of the seat belt that holds the seat in place.]

I think DH & I will try to "fix" it this weekend using the locking clip.

  • When we had 1, we were lucky enough that the middle worked out in both of our vehicles.  Now we have one on each side and are hoping to fill the middle spot this Winter (if I don't get my way and convince my husband we need a VAN).

  • In DHs car, J is in the middle. My car, she only fits behind the passenger (small sports car).

I actually like getting her in and out of my car best because it can be done without lifting or leaning while holding the infant seat.

I was told by the firefighter that installed our sets that we could not safely install a rear facing convertible seat in my car. Sigh. Mom car heading his way....

I had this situation happen when I tried to install DS's seat in the middle of a town car. Seat shape made it unstable. I think if an outboard position is used, either one could be argued to be better. I would just use the side most convenient.

  • Ours is in the middle (infant seat) and I plan on putting the convertible one there as well when L outgrows his infant seat.  I read that the middle is the safest, but after that the driver's side is next bc we have a natural instinct in a side-impact accident to protect the driver's side.  So if for some reason we couldn't do the middle, it would be behind the driver.
