  • Didn't get one and don't regret it.  I personally find them creepy looking.  Also, the baby will be born soon enough and you'll get to take actual cute pictures of them.

  • I didn't get one for DD. At the A/S at my office they just have to flip a switch and I forgot to ask during the appointment. When I realized it, I was a bit disappointed, but I never really regretted it.

    I agree with the pp, I actually find they look a bit creepy and I don't think they will give you a better idea of how your son looks.

    If I remember (or if the nurse does), then I'll do it this time, but I'm not sweating it. I won't be getting an elective u/s.

  • An ultrasound is a medical procedure, and like all medical procedures I think the benefit should be weighed against the risk.

    I did an NT ultrasound, because my husband and I thought the benefit of diagnosing a potential problem outweighed the risks associated with exposing the baby to the ultrasound. We will do an anatomy scan for the same reason.

    We will not do an elective scan just to see what the baby looks like.

  • Thanks Ladies!

    Helps me with my decision to NOT get one. All my ultrasounds have been because they were medically needed and even then I feel I have had too many.

    My two SIL's have gotten 3D ultrasounds and invited us to watch. It was neat but after hearing your experiences of not really regretting it, I'm happy to wait to see him in person Geeked I'm sure I'm going to be staring at him for forever anyway Big Smile

  • I didn't get one and I do not plan to. I am also of the same mindset that it is a medical procedure and it seems silly to get one unless medically necessary.

    I'm in the group where 3D ultrasounds are just creepy. nbsp;I don't want to know anything of what they look like till I'm holding them in my arms.nbsp;

    Haha yes, that's the main reason why I didn't want one to begin with. Not to put down my SIL's decisions to get them or anyone else's...there's just no surprise anymore.

    We did a gender scan at one of those specialty ultrasound places and they did a 3D peek. The tech could only get the girl's face. I agree with the other's that it is creepy, but I don't think it spoils any surprise at how she will look because the quality is not that good. I do not plan on going back to get a 3D image of the boy; he will just have to deal with the fact that he is the unphotogenic twin. I do not regret passing on the 3D ultrasound package.

  • I did get one but I also think they are creepy. I sure hope my little guy looks nothing like what shows up on that scan!! Just weird.

    We went because DH was not going to be able to make it to the A/S and we wanted to find out the sex together. I don't regret that we did do it, but if hubby was going to be able to attend the 20 week u/s I would have just skipped the elective.

    Think about it this way- how many times have you watched your wedding video?  Is it in the dvd player now, or collecting dust at the bottom of a box somewhere?  Do you really think you or anyone else is going to be chomping at the bit to watch it?  Like 10 years from now you're going to be heartbroken that you can't relive it?  No.  Because 10 years from now you'll be preoccupied with the child who is living and growing right in front of you.

  • We didn't with first two kids, but wanted to with our last for a gender scan. I was shocked it was only 75!! We got a DVD and my two sons saw their sister! It was so cute...not the alien baby, but my four and two year olds reactions.
  • My SIL got one, and honestly I don't even think my niece really looks like she did in the 3D u/s. In just the few weeks between them, she put on more fat in her face and looked completely different. Definitely didn't think it was worth it, especially without and medical reason. SIL got 4 different u/s plus the 3D one. Too much I think, since she was very low-risk and there was never any reason to suspect something was wrong.
