Trying not to ask an insensitive question...cancer in both breasts or the gene?
Her first case of breast cancer was 11 years ago. Luckily it was caught early and she went through a lumpectomy and radiation therapy. No chemo. This time again it was caught early at stage 1, same breast. Originally she was going to only do a single mastectomy with reconstruction but due to her medical history of breast cancer and seeing as she has had a cessation she was only a candidate for the hardest type of reconstruction where they take muscle from your back.
So last minute she cancelled her original surgery and decided to do both sides and not take on the reconstruction. As far as having the gene, we are not sure but after this is over she will be tested as a precaution to me.
Sorry this is so long!
