Below is the email I received today.....
Dear Ms. *****,
I am in receipt of your email regarding Troy Aquatic Park season passes and I certainly appreciate your comments. Policies related to the Troy Aquatic Park are established by the Troy Recreation Board. Staff is then responsible for implementation and enforcement of these established policies.
The policies are reviewed each year by the Recreation Board following the pool season in either September or October. This particular policy was reviewed and discussed in detail by the Troy Recreation Board in 2010. At that time, the board determined to continue with the policy as it had been previously established. In order to qualify as a member of a family pass, the passholders that may be included can be ?custodial mother and/or father or legal guardian who are legally married and/or their children ages 3 - 18 who reside in the same household.?
I plan to present your suggested revisions to the board for their consideration when they next meet. However, as I mentioned, they typically do their annual review of all the policies each year in September or October. Therefore, I don?t know that any revisions to the policy would be made prior to that time.
For this season, I do not anticipate that Ms. ****** will qualify as part of this family season pass. She is certainly welcome to purchase an adult pass. If she would like to do this, please contact Carrie Slater and I would be willing to offer her the ?Early Bird? Adult Season Pass rate of $95.
Regards,
Ken Siler
I edited it to remove my partner and I's last names. I think it is so sad, that is was considered and they still chose discrimination.

Re: Pool Pass Update
I missed the original post about this, but I am assuming they wouldn't let you purchase a family pool pass?
That is complete discrimination and absurd! It saddens me that stuff like this still happens in 2013 :-(
Yea Trish in a nut shell that's pretty much what happened. The post was last week Thurs I think and its says Need Advise or something like that..... and yes it is sad!

I was especially dissapointed in the fact that they hadnt revisited the topic since 2010? Seriously.....I know we are not the only family denied this in our town!

Wow, I'm stunned! How backwards and to PP's point, 2010??? Seriously? That's the last time?
While I appreciate his tone was very respectful, and that clearly Ken here has no power, this is very sad and disappointing to say the least. Do you feel comfortable doing a letter to the editor of your newspaper? I'm happy to help you write it if you want!
I think that THIS is the kind of reason that we need to be able to be legally married and this is the EXACT kind of 'real life' scenario that the right wing nut jobs never think of (or, even the people who are borderline on the matter). This reminds me of paying the city taxes on the value of 1/2 my house that I bought with my money because I had my ex's name on the title! So when she left, I had to 'buy' her half and pay taxes on it's value! All because we were not married. Nobody thinks about the 'small' stuff. <jumps off soapbox>
Well, I give Ken 5 points for offering you the early bird rate since he obviously doesn't himself have the power to make bigger change. I'm sorry you're out $95 bucks...I know how hurtful this kind of thing is.
Hang in there.

Thanks 2mamaz, I did write a short note to the editor of our paper and the lead journalist. I also forwarded the emails (mine & his) to them. I hope someone takes an interest. My city is only 90 minutes from Columbus and 20 minutes from Dayton, cities that I am sure this kind of thing doesn't happen in very often! We are a pretty big town with a tiny town mentality! Gah!

We are in Ohio, no second parent adoption here available to us. Ohio has a long way to go on a lot of LGBT issues....

Perhaps you could help me with a response to dear Mr. Ken Siler?
Ugh, yes Ohio has a very long way to go in LGBT rights. We have a huge LGBT community, especially in Columbus, but there are a lot of conservatives in the smaller towns that are obviously discriminating and holding us back.
Queer coupled and having a BABY with the love of my life! Love my life and wouldn't have it any other way!
