Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Intro & Ye Old Nap Question

Hey 3-6 month board! My LO will be 3 months tomorrow. Just thought I'd say hello and post a question!

when should we start being more consistent with a nap schedule? Our baby is a very all-around "on demand" kinda guy... eats whenever, sleeps whenever and wherever. I will say that his bedtime is becoming more consistent, around 8:30ish... but what about naps?

This is what I use for reference so he doesn't get overtired. I don't wait to get him in the middle of the night though (in reference to that category on the chart)

DS is almost 5 months and he still can't be awake for more than 2-2.5 hours so we do eat, play, sleep, repeat until bedtime at 7-7:30. Sometimes he naps for 2 hours, sometimes for 30 minutes. I don't think he'll be ready for an exact nap schedule for a couple of more months at least.
    .

This. DS is 4.5 months and is a sleep magician, constantly playing tricks and changing things before our eyes. We also follow an eat/play/sleep routine, but lately it's been all over the place as far as time frames. Sometimes DS can be awake almost 2 hours, sometimes he barely makes 90 minutes. I have been giving myself ulcers trying to figure out what the "right" thing to do is to get him on some kind of consistent routine, to no avail.

So now I just say whatever happens that day, happens. Yesterday he slept from 3-5 in the afternoon and went to bed at 7:30. Today he woke up at 3:30 from a nap and I decided to skip a late nap because he woke up at 8:30 this morning after losing two hours sleep in the middle of the night from something upsetting him. He had taken an almost 3 hour nap in the late morning today, so I felt that between sleeping late, a three hour nap, and a half hour nap in the later afternoon, that was a lot of daytime sleep. So he now is crashed in bed at 6. It is what it is at his age.
