A little nervous but..

I'm right around 38/39wks along, a FTM, and I just lost my mucus plugit was darker brown and slimy looking, sorry for the TMiI'm not having any pain really in my back, just a small, almost hungerlike pain in my lower ab area. I did call and leave a message with my Drs nurse and am waiting for a callback. Since this is our first, DH is alittle panicked. Should I head into the dr or just wait for the callback. Like I said, I'm a FTM and just not sure what to do now. Thanks everyone

  • I am too a FTM and will be 39 weeks tomorrow. You can lose your MP a couple weeks or right before you go into labor. My OB directs me to only go into L&D if my water breaks, I start bleed (not spoting), or am having consistant timeable contractions at most 5 min apart.

  • No need to panic. I lost mine a week ago and haven't progressed since. Some people lose theirs right before labor. I'd wait for contractions or your water breaking before I'd head to the doctor but a call always puts your mind at ease.

There's no need to run to the hospital. I didn't go into labor until days after I lost my MP; for some, it's weeks. A "small hungerlike pain" is not contractions; your OB should have told you [or will tell you when he/she calls back] when to go to the hospital. It's usually after an hour or two of regular, timetable contractions that don't go away with movement, rest or water.

Just hang in there and tell your H to chill.

  • No need to go to the hospital. Most doctors say to go when you experience bleeding, your water breaks, or your contractions are 5 minutes apart, lasting 1 minute, and last 1 hour. I've been losing my MP for a while now and had no other real progress I can see or feel anyway.

  • I lost my mp over a week before I actually went into labor.  My ob told me that I should go to the hospital if I'm having contractions 5 min apart or less consistantly for an hour.  I'd just wait for the dr to call you back unless things change and you start getting timeable, painful contractions or bleeding.
