I stopped work 2 weeks before my due date, then went 2 weeks overdue. I was SO bored and impatient, and in retrospect, wish I had kept working longer. I'd work until you are too uncomfortable to go in, but definitely step down meetings and commitments in the last week or two so that you're not harried or leaving things unfinished.
I planned to work until delivery with both LOs. It turns out that my body goes into labor at 38 weeks, and it lasts for 2 weeks (a.k.a. prodromal labor). I cut my hours back during my last week pregnant with #1, and took a sick day at the end of my pregnancy with #2. If I ever have another child, I will plan to take off at 38 weeks.
I had the exact same mindset as you. In the end though, I had to give my VP a specific date when I would go on leave because people kept putting jobs in my inbox and I don't have people to cover me. I felt like I had to give everyone a deadline date to get things in to me or there would end up being stuff that didn't get completed. I was uncomfortable at the end, but the most obnoxious part about it was my coworkers who kept saying stuff like "You're still here!?" every freaking morning. I went on leave at 39w5d (Friday) and I was due that Monday.
I went into labor on Sunday night though and had a due date baby so it worked out perfectly. If I were you, I would just try to wait it out.
I am planning on working until my water breaks (or my due date, since I have an RCS scheduled for then if I don't go into labor on my own beforehand). I have a desk job as well and see no reason to take off before little dude comes; all I would be doing is sitting home and pacing , lol. Being at work is like a break for me anyway, since I have a three-nager at home who is determined to drive mommy demented.
I don't know why people with desk jobs.want to take off work before delivery and burn up leave time! I worked up until the night I was induced (6 days after my due date), and then the day before my scheduled c section the second time.
yes it is uncomfortable, but if you have a desk job, you'll either be sitting at work or sitting at home
Granted, this will be my first baby, but my plan is to be in the office until the Friday before my due date (I'm due on a Thursday) then work from home until the baby comes. I'll still be putting in the hours and sitting at a desk, logged into my work computer, but I'd rather not have my water break at work and then have to take an hour long train ride home, then drive to the hospital (another 20/30 min further). If I worked closer to home/the hospital then I would be in the office up until the end, so for me it's a distance thing not a sitting at my desk working issue.
working from home sounds like great idea if you can swing it! Best of both worlds. But if my water broke at work I don't think I'd risk a train ride anyway lol. My butt would be bumming a ride to the hospital!
I planned to work up to my delivery date, which was a random work day in December. My LO had a different idea; she let me work until Thanksgiving break, which was great. I work with preschool children and I wasn't (too) uncomfortable, although the lower back pain was annoying.
Re: Work till delivery
With DS I ended up working past my due date as he decided to come a bit late.
With this pregnancy I plan to work through the 21, take the weekend to wrap up stuff at home, and have a RCS on the 24.
I have a desk job so other than being bored because I have all my work done early, it wasn't a bit deal to work right up to delivery.
