3rd Trimester

Was snooping around on in-gender...

A woman started a thread because she has one DS and found out the twins she is pregnant with now are most likely both boys.  She is talking about selective reduction for one of the twins so she can still try for a girl in the future (three is their max).  DH is against it but is willing to do it because she's so depressed.

I'm speechless.

  • What a selfish idiot.
  • What a horrible human being for wanting to abort a viable fetus because it has a penis. How do you select which one? Toss a coin? Enie, meenie, miny, moe? Seriously, that is so sick.

  • Breaks my heart to hear that! I'm about to have my 3rd boy and I never would choose to do that just because I wanted a girl. Who's to say that the next pregnancy would be a girl....it could be a boy again!

That woman should be sterilised.  Piece of shiit.

But then agin, so should people who get abortions because their babies are girls. It happens in the Asian populations in the larger cities around here, and I am disgusted. They won't tell you gender until after the abortion cutoff period (I think around 25 weeks), and some won't tell you gender at all.

People who abort based on gender are terrible human beings.

  • I can't believe this woman is that selfish. I could never imagine aborting a baby based on its sex. All dh and I wanted was a baby and its sad that people get so focused on what's between it's legs that they end up doing sh!t like this.

  • I dont think she can at this point.  tthey usually only do it at the end of first trimester bc terminating later would leave the fetus in there and cause problems for the other baby including IUGR.  sounds like someone just trying to push buttons honestly.
After three miscarriages and one ectopic pregnancy we are currently pursuing adoption. " Born not from our flesh, but born in our heart. You were longed for and wanted and loved from the start."
  • I don't mean to put anyone here down in anyway, I know that gender disappointment is a real thing (sad, and ridiculous, but a thing). But that whole website upsets me. I creeped over on the link, and I was just appalled. Won't be doing that again!

GD in the average population's mind = Gestational Diabetes.

In this forum's reality it means Gender Disappointment = GD.

Essentially, they are so wracked with emotion at the genitalia of their unborn offspring that they are willing to entertain the idea of abortion. I am pro-choice, but in this case I would say that it could classify as premeditated and intentional murder. Yeah, I said it.

Thankfully, later on in the thread she seems to be leaning towards having both babies. I don't think its right to pick and choose which twin lives or dies. Playing russian roulette with another small, defenseless life doesn't sit well with me.

Also, isn't it way late-- you know, legally to entertain abortion?

She was only 13 weeks when she posted it.

My mother had an abortion at 21 weeks due to a fatal medical condition in the baby. It is considered a late term abortion and only a few doctors in the country will do it.

Ah, That format is really hard to deal with. It made my eyes cross...

I think if one of the twins had a medical condition that threatened the life of everyone involved then it would be a completely different reaction. Its the fact that both seem to be perfectly healthy that gets to me. Also, she is way too early to worry about sex at this point.

Also, one of the boys or both could grow up and feel the desire to be transgendered. It could be what they feel is right for them and make the change that sets them free. Then she can have her cake and eat it too, I guess. I personally, know at least 3 friends from HS that have made the transition. They are so much happier living as females. So I mean, you can't predict what your babies will do in the future and making a decision based on sex really really seems like jumping the gun and being way too hasty.

I absolutely do NOT agree with her wanting to get an abortion because of the sex. To me, that is never, ever ok. I was just pointing out that I do know you can get one on the later side of pregnancy.

She said she got the MaterniT21 test so she knows for sure that at least one baby is a boy.

Wow.... that is outrageous. She could at least put one up for adoption if she really MUST have a girl.  That makes me so mad and sad.
  • This is actually the most heartbreaking thing I have ever read...one thing that gets me is she says that she doesn't want to go back on her Zoloft because it is a class C drug now..well I'm sorry but does that make any sense? You are wanting to abort one of your children on purpose due to sex, but won't take the medication you need which yes MAY carry a risk to the fetuses but would get you out of this gender disappointment depression...?

  • Ugh, what more can be said? What a horrible, disgusting thing to do.

I just think about what an immense amount of pressure that woman is already putting on her future, hypothetical daughter. Obviously, the OP has a fairly concrete image of what she'd like out of a child; I don't believe for a second that it stops with an extra X chromosome.

"The cleaning, the scrubbing will wait til tomorrow,
For children grow up, as I've learned to my sorrow.
So, quiet down cobwebs. Dust go to sleep.
I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep."

I spent some time lurking there when ttc#3 for tips on swaying for a girl. I don't remember reading anything that horrific at the time.

I was thinking this as well- the definition of class C means you can use it if the risk of not using outweighs the risk of using it (If I'm not mistaken..).  Um, I think the fact that she's considering aborting one of her babies would justify going back on the darn drug.
