Baby in car . . . gas station

This is a question based off a below post about someone leaving their baby in the car. When I see people say they wouldn't even leave their child in a car at the gas station, are you talking about you wouldn't leave them when you have to go to the cashier and pay, or you wouldn't even leave them when it's pay at the pump? I only go to pay at the pump, so I get out, walk around to the side of the car the gas door is on, which is right next to where Rob is sitting in his car seat, and either open the door and talk to him while I pump gas, or play peek a boo through the window (or leave him alone if he is sleeping). Just wanted to clarify what people do. Also, when I go to Target or something, I park right next to the cart corral thing, and leave Rob in the car as I get a cart from right next to the car. Those are the only times would leave him in the car alone.

    i do what you do.

  • What everyone else does. I also leave them both in the car in our driveway to run the groceries in the house. If I brought them in and THEN got groceries, Caleb would escape and run amok in the neighborhood or Hunter would end up being hurt by Caleb "playing" with him. Sigh. But that's the only time I leave them in the car alone for more than 10sec. And the car is on

Same.  Except, I am terrible and never put the cart away.

  • Pumping gas...She stays in the car. I had a situation where I had to go in and pay for ice... I took her in with me.

I also do the same thing with the cart corral.

  • Same as well. I even lock the doors or take the keys with me when I pump gas or return the cart. I'm really paranoid about wierdos.

  • Me too.  I don't know anybody who actually takes their baby out of the car to pump gas if they're not going into the store to pay.

I leave her in the car while I pump gas and pay at the pump. I also put her in the car and then put the cart in the corral. I do park close, though so I can see her and the car.

    Yep this

  • I do pretty much the same as everyone here. Another instance I will leave her is when I'm returning a Redbox, I leave the car on and I can see her the whole time. I've also left her in the car in the garage when I've forgotten something in the house and need to run back in really quick.
  • I also do what you do.  I also leave the kiddos in the car if they are sleeping and I need to unload groceries, but I can see the driveway from the kitchen and it is very, very close.  That will have to change when we move because we are moving from the country to the city and the location of the driveway.

Hmm. I have to get out of the car to put gas in my car. The only way I don't is if DH is with me. While I do Jack stays in the car. I leave one of the front windows open a bit [not his because its right in front of the fuel cap]. He then comes into the shop when I pay [the more common way to do things here].

Groceries I unpack them into the car, return the cart, then he goes into the car. And when we get home he sits on my hip as I unpack the car there. I don't know what I would do if I had two LOs.

The only time he stays in the car is if he's fallen asleep on our way home from somewhere and is due for a nap [because he tends to not go back down once I take him out]. But then I have a window right down, or a door open, and stay with him the whole time.
