My husband is Hawaiian and we have decided to go with Kalani or Kainoa for our boy. I really prefer Kainoa but he has a first cousin, who he never sees, with that name. He wants Kalani but I think it sounds too feminine. What do you guys think? I appreciate any opinions. Thanks for your time!
Re: Hawaiian boy name decision.
What about just the name Kai? I have a close friend with that name and I've loved it for YEARS. If we have a boy this time, his name will actually be Lucas Kai.
But, of your choices, I like Kainoa best.

This. I prefer just Kai.

I totally agree!
Okay. I like it. I think I like it more than Kalani as Kalani does sound A LITTLE feminine to me. I'd just be concerned about how much it will be mispronounced.
I live in Hawaii, and though I'm not Hawaiian, I've noticed that not many Hawaiian boys have "i" sounds at the end of their names -- at least not in my classes. Kalani therefore sounds a little feminine to me, and always makes me think of Kalani High School. Just a thought...
Kainoa is handsome. You mentioned that you also like Koa -- perhaps Kaikoa or Kanekoa?
