Survival Tricks

What's one unique thing you keep in your diaper bag or purse that you can't leave home without, and why?

I ask this because I just learned form a seasoned mom that diaper wipes are great for nearly all accidental spills on clothing - like as good as stain sticks.  Wondering what other useful tips are out there that other moms have figured out.

  • Small garbage bags. You can buy specific "diaper" bags but regular scented bags work just as well and are much cheaper. We use them for changing diapers on the go, to store soiled clothes until we get home, to hold dropped toys/pacifiers until they can be cleaned, etc.

  • I second the two that the other posters mentioned.  I keep wipes everywhere! In my car, my office - they work on deoderant stains, makeup marks, baby spit, coffee spills, etc.  They're great.  I also keep little scented armon hamor diaper bags with me at all times, same reason as the poster above.

Let's see what else can I share.  Keep an emergency bag in the car with diapers, wipes, a burp cloth a onsie and a receiving blanket.  You never know when you're going to have to run out real quick on your way home from work or over to a friends house real quick, or a 5 minute drive turns into 4 hours.  (DD had a poopsplosion on the way home from daycare yesterday.  We droped off at the pediatrician real quick and there was poop everywhere.  I was so glad I had my emergency bag!)

Always keep bottles or snacks with you, even if you think it's going to be a quick trip, you just never know.  there could be an accident or your LO could be going through a growth spurt and be hungry out of nowhere.

  • An A&A blanket, we use it as a burp cloth, high chair cover, diaper changing table cover sometimes we even use it as a blanket. They seem to be super stain resistant, we have used them to clean up a ton a different spills and have never had any staining.

I am super lax now and only bring diapers, wipes, 1 change of clothes and a bottle. In the beginning I lugged around a huge bag of 'just in case' items that I never used. Now I bring just a small bag and it is much easier.

  • Yup, extra shirt for me. That's the only thing not expected I think. Other things i always have are spare sleeper, socks, bib, facecloth, breast pad, a blanket, wet bag, bum spray and cream, wipes, diapers, tylenol and her health card and immunisation record.

  • Extra outfit of course, but now I don't leave the house without a baby mum mum in the diaper bag.  They are awesome for when she gets fussy while out and about, plus she loves them.
