Your thoughts?

My SIL found out she is expecting another little girl. They had a terrible time coming up with a name for their first daughter (boys names come easily to them). When I talked to her last she is thinking of going with Caitlyn (not sure on the spelling yet). They have no clue that we are even thinking of starting to TTC. DH have already have a boy name picked out (Logan Patrick) and have already decided on a girls mn - Kate. It has family ties for his side of the family and my BFF.

Here's the question - if they do decide on Caitlin as a fn - do you think a mn of Kate is too close for 1st cousins? DH doesn't think so but I'm not completely convinced.

I don't think it would be a big deal because you're using it as a middle name. To be honest, I'm not even sure what my niece's middle name is. After the birth announcement I promptly forgot!

I agree with the bolded part. You're not even using the exact same name. Even in my family, where we use MNs frequently, it wouldn't bother me.

I agree with everyone else that fn Caitlin and mn Kate are completely fine for cousins. My name is Caitlin and one cousin one year younger than me is Kaitlin. Not first cousins though. It was never really a problem for us but everyone called us by first and last name when we were all together.
