When did you first take your newborn out & about?

DD is only a week old and its getting colder here, but with DD#1 I was so depressed because I was afraid of taking her out. Now, I feel more laid back and know getting out of the house is important for my own sanity. I want to take her with me though. When do you think it is okay to do so? I was thinking this weekend, maybe just going to the mall or something if the weather is okay.

4 days old. It was Christmas Eve. We had him out pretty much nonstop from birth. My pedi was pretty lenient, and even though he was born in flu season, she said the small risk of him getting sick wasn't worth my mental sanity, and getting out of the house was much better than staying in.

I took DD to the outlets earlier this week and to the grocery store yesterday. I am pretty comfortable taking here where I have to go now as long as it's not a germfest of a place like a school or something.

We went to the zoo when LO was a week old. She slept the whole time.

We first took DD out when she was 3 days old, to a friends house. She's been out pretty much everyday to different stores since then.

We had to go to Target when we left the hospital. We've gone out 2-3 times a week since then...malls, restaurants and such.

About five days old. Grocery store, target and marshalls, they were all in a row. We weren't out too long though and I kept her stroller covered with a blanket.

Took "wolfie" to the park in the 1st week. Still haven't taken him to any public places at this point.

Our twins were born premature so there first outting was at 4 weeks to Grandpa's house, since then they have only been to friends and familie's homes no stores yet.

We went to grandmas w/ the twins they day we came home from the hospital... and would have  done this no matter the weather. If you're really worried about germs put a blanket over the handle of the carrier while it's up so it drapes the carseat and go!!! Have fun!

DD is 2 weeks old today, there have been 3 days since we've been home from the hosptial that we didn't go anywhere. Most of the outings were short trips (to Target for a breast pump, grocery shopping, her doctors appts, etc.), or we were going to visit family/friends.

Other than doctors visits and gramas house which were both in the first week, we took her out to a restaurant at 2 weeks old.

Luke didnt come home from the NICU until he was 3 weeks 4 days old.

But I took him to the pedi the next day. The mall the following day. Thrid trip was on day three to Church. & he also went to the Cheese cake factory.

I was really nervous about taking him out but when I asked the NICU doctors before I left how long I should wait they told me that I really shouldnt because he wont be able to build up his immune system. We avoid large crowds or lots of people touching. Its getting cold here and I just make sure hes wearing a warm outfit, a hat, and a warm blanket around in. I also have one of those bundle mes for the car seat but I havent tried it yet. Maybe more towards winter & when hes bigger!

We went out for the first time at 5 days old to Target...we've been out most days since then to appointments, stores, restaurants, daddy's work...he gets around!

4 days old. We went to pick up a friend from the airport and we stopped to eat lunch on the way home.

We took DD to church when she was 3 days old.  She's been to the store a few times with me along with her pedi appts and also the weekly BF support group I joined at the hospital where I work.  Last weekend we drove 600 miles with her (over two days) to see family in another state, and we're not coming home until this weekend.  She's 4 weeks old today, and she's done great so far even with the busy week we've had!
