babyproofing

i dont even know where to begin when it comes to the living room.. besides the obvious..she crawls under the coffee table... goes for the tv etc.   all good as far as development, but exhausting for me! lol

what are some options when it comes to this stuff?  she hasnt stood up yet but is attempting to.. did you ladies take down picture frames  etc on tables as well?

Re: babyproofing

  • Honestly we haven't started - but time and time and time again I've been told and seen the best way to do it is watch your kid and only do what you have to.  So - if they are crawling and attacking the tv buttons find a way to prevent that.  If they are interested in your light sockets - then get the covers (but don't get them until then )

My sister in law with her first was able to give her a drawer in the kitchen with tupperware - she would say - here's Kate's drawer - after 2 days of redirection Kate never opened another drawer.  When Calvin got to that age all bets were off - they installed the locks on the cabinets (Except for the tupperware drawer) - so each kid will be different but trust me - all this stuff is a PITA for you so only do what you need to do.

You can either block the table with wicker baskets, (or something you like the look of) or not and redirect your LO.

This. It is a very short lived phase so I wouldn't bother spending any money.

I am in the "redirect" camp. Of course, I have rearranged some things and put some away now that LO is mobile to make it safer and give her some more room. But I'm not gonna go crazy redecorating or buying new.

The only thing I really have to put away for a while is framed photos. I have about 30 of them on 3 shelves of a tall bookcase in the living room. Soon DD will be pulling up on it, then walking and running into it I'm sure. The bookcase itself is tethered to the wall, but one good shove and all those frames will come toppling down.

This. I used baskets of his toys to block the TV stand because he kept trying to pull himself up on it and stand there. But then he discovered how to climb into the basket and then get up. So then I just let him stand up on it a couple of times (the tv, stand is all anchored) and now he has no interest anymore.

I put outlet covers on because he was interested in them and taped up all my wires from my computer because he was trying to pull on them. Other than that, I usually still follow him occasionally and keep baby proofing as he discovers new things!
