Grovia shell to insert ratio

For those who use Grovia AI2/hybrids, how often do you find yourself changing the shells?  Right now I have 3 inserts per shell.  Should I get more inserts before baby comes?  We are planning to use Kawaii P&Ns at first, so we probably won't be using the Grovias during the EBF runny poop stage.

Re: Grovia shell to insert ratio

  • I have been curious about this as well.  To start, I purchased a 2/pk of inserts per shell.  However, Nicki's Diapers suggests three inserts per Best Bottom Shell (also AI2/hybrid) so I might follow that rule of thumb if I find that I like the GroVia Shells and inserts and much as I am hoping to.

For a really young baby that poops a million times a day, you'll change the shells almost every time. Now that my son is not pooping nearly as often 2 mos. in, the shells last much longer. If you're planning on using them from the get go, 3 will definitely not be enough. I currently have 7 shells, and it wasn't enough earlier, it's plenty now.

Yea, we're going to use the Kawaii P&Ns for newborn stage.  For Grovia, so far I have 6 shells and 18 inserts, but I also have fitteds and pockets, since I don't know which we are going to like best.

When you son was older, say 6-12 months, how many shells did you go through in a day?

  • My DD is 18 months and I'd say 2-3 shells per day.

  • We have 8 shells and 29 inserts.  However what I do is........only use a shell once per day. So we use 5 shells. Changing every 1.5-2 hours. she is not a heavy wetter! Then at night I snap on a new liner for the next day. I would say for us starting at 6 months (solids) we wold only "need" to replace shell once or twice a week. She rarely soiled them. I guess the ratio would also depend on how often you wanted to wash.......do you plan to wash everyday, every other, or every third?! With all diapers the more you wash them the more they wear. So if you only have enough for 3 days and you basically using them everyday they will wear down much faster then if you had say 5 days worth?! Make sense?!  Hope this helps.
