Pregnant after 35

Pregnant at 36 with 3rd

Hi Everyone, I am new here and I thought I'd see if there were tips on how to make my days easier. I am sick from the morning I get up until it is time for me to go to bed. The nausea is so strong that it cripples me on a daily basis. I am 36 years old and I'm 21 weeks. It has been difficult to do anything with my two toddlers.  It really, really sucks as a parent to be in a position like this.  My Dr. has already prescribed the strongest anti nausea medication that they have, which is zofron.

Any suggestions as to what I can do to make it fun on most days for my two toddlers, would be great.

Thank you

  • I know how you feel. The trick for me was that before I got out of the bed, I would eat like three crackers. About 10 to 15 minutes later, I had a few sips of water. Then throughout the course of the day, I ate really bland foods like rice, toast and raw veggies and fruit that I could tolerate. I also kept drinking water throughout the day. After about a week, I started adding foods that I liked but if I couldn't deal with it, I tried something else. I still deal with a little nausea now and I'm 17 weeks tomorrow but it's definitely better than what I was dealing with.

And try out some Popsicles or hard candies you can suck on. Peppermint tea seemed to settle my stomach too. Go to a health food store and get some ginger jellies. Take your prenatal pills at night before bed if you take them.

    I hope you feel better.

  • Omg I'm in the same boat. I just got a sitter from 9 to 11. I wake up and play, then lay down two hours. Play again for two and lay down for two more during naps. It's crippling but will help through summer. Hang in there I know it's bad
  • Sorry you're suffering, I can relate. I was on both Zofran and Phenergan and still had nausea. There was hardly anything I could stand to eat for pretty much the entire first tri. Preggy pops helped me a little and plain white mints. I don't know if you have much reflux but getting mine under control with prilosec also helped with the nausea. There wasn't really a magic answer for me but these few little things along with the meds did help some. Good luck and big hugs to you.

I'm 36 and also pregnant with my 3rd.  I'm sorry you are so sick!  I don't have any suggestions on that front, but I did want to suggest something for your kids.  Not sure how old/self sufficient they are, but I would create a special activity bag or box for them.  You can put puzzles, books, coloring books, crayons, markers, legos, playdoh, etc. in them and have them choose something fun to do if you need a break.  There are a ton of DIY things you can make for the bags, or just go to Target, the Dollar Store, etc. and stock up.  My kids are 3 and 5 and love stuff like this, esp. on rainy days.  Once they are done, the stuff goes back in the box, so it's always special and doesn't get into their regular toy rotation.
  • If you are having a hard time leaving the house, you could get a sand and water table for your 2 toddlers.  That way they get outside and play in one spot, and you don't have to leave home.  I got a Step 2 one that has one side water and one side sand.  I bought a few little cars and smaller sand toys. The boys mix everything together, but they play with it for over an hour.  I just sit next to them and relax.  Good luck.
  • Sorry you are feeling so bad! I'm 36 too and a FTM so not sure how to handle the toddlers. But, I used grated ginger in hot water to help with nausea during the day early in my pregnancy. Also, occasional peppermint tea helped a lot. There is a tea called Happy Mornings Sippin Tea by Spoiled Mama that really works well. It actually helped reduce my nausea over time so I could finally eat. Good luck and hope you feel better soon!
