rice cereal fail

So we introduced rice cereal on DD's 4 month birthday last week. What a disaster! She absolutely hated it, even though it was so thin you couldn't even tell there was rice cereal in it. I think she hates the spoon. I tried again the next day and again this morning. Same reaction.

I'm not pushing it, and not stressing it. Thankfully her doctor is flexible and on board with going slow and even talked about how they don't need anything before the age of 1. I figure we'll try every now and then and eventually she'll eat something. If not the cereal then maybe purees after 6 months...

Anyone else try it and have their LO hate it? Suggestions if it's just the spoon that she hates?

Re: rice cereal fail

  • I tried to start my second on cereal at 6 months. She hated it. Once every week or so I tried offering cereal or purees. Finally at 8 months I handed her a cheerio, which she gladly ate. It turned out she had no interest in being spoon fed or in pureed foods. Once we put a few pieces of solid food on her plate she tasted things and ate. She still isn't fond of puree-texture foods at almost 4.

Since your daughter is on the young side for getting any solids I would hold off. Sounds like she's not ready at all.

  • We're not even going to try until 6 months.  DS1 honestly wasn't interested at all in solids until closer to 7-8 months.
