I'm thinking of making a mobile for over the crib....anybody have experience with this? How high does it hang, what did you hang it with, etc.? Thanks! Almost there!
I am making one too. I have it started, and need to make myself finish it this week. I know a lot of people either tack or buy a hook for the ceiling and hang the mobile off it. I am such a safety freak and keep thinking what if the tack comes lose and the moblie and tack fall in the crib. Even the ceiling hook idea bothers me, that's just so much string for a baby to get caught in if it did fall. My husband is really handy and good at making stuff. So what I have come up with is for my husband to make a wood bracket for the wall, and I'll hang it off that. There will still be string involved, but I guess I just trust something hanging off the wall more than the ceiling. Hopefully we'll get it up this weekend. I'll try to remember to post some pictures.

We had a great mobile with DD and then she learned to stand up in her crib...the mobile did not stand a chance. LOL I don't think I will be adding one this time.
We made one for DS I'm considering re-using for LO. I used embroidery hoops (the inner part, which is an unbroken wooden circle), fishing line, and origami cranes hanging from it.
I secured it to the ceiling with a ceiling hook - not a a small cup hook but a ceiling hook, which included a drywall anchor - little possibility the hook would fall out of the ceiling. The mobile was put up high enough that he couldn't grasp it.
I got a wired wreath and I'm using fishing line to hand different colored/types of flowers as well as hang it from the ceiling. I'm using 20lb one so it will definitely support it all. I plan to use it above her crib at first and then eventually move it above the glider when she can start standing in her crib.

I got an origami mobile kit for $11 at Michael's. It makes 5 3-tiered mobiles, I don't know why anyone needs 5! Guess I know what I'm doing for future babies. The origami directions sucked, so we youtubed origami videos. Much easier. Overall a good deal!

You can buy a mobile "arm" that most store bought ones come on that attach to the crib.
My mom made one for DD1, but I doubt we will have one for DD2 since it really wasnt used. (poor second child lol)
