Pregnant after 35

Hi Everyone- new to Board...

Wow, I'm so glad to have found you all!  Just confirmed my pregnancy- thankfully I'm working through mixed emotions, as my husband and I were just thinking how our family was perfect, and viola! Obviously the Man Upstairs has other plans for us!  Would love to hear from anyone who is over 40 (I am 42), is a working mom, and has several children already...my oldest will be 16 and my youngest will be 41/2 when this baby is born.  It has been so helpful reading everyone's posts...I am realizing that everything happens for a reason...feeling more blessed everyday :)

Re: Hi Everyone- new to Board...

  • I have just found out I'm expecting.
I'm 37 and mum of 4 .. My eldest is 16 my youngest is 5.
I have mixed emotions also as I work full time and my life seems quite settled.
I'm excited and nervous at the same time am I too old for this ??

  • I also had mixed emotions when I found out I was pregnant.  We had been trying for awhile and nothing was happening.  We came to the conclusion that it wasn't going to happen and that we have a great little family (I have a 5 year old son) so it was time to celebrate that.  Less than a week later, I noticed I didn't get my period and here we are.  It has been about a month since I found out and my emotions are still occasionally mixed, I am more excited and less nervous every day.

    Congrats on your pregnancy!

  • I'll be 41 when little one arrives. Took a little longer than I thought to find Mr. Right :: smiles:: I am a first time mom. My mom had a 16 year gap between myself and little bro and it worked out well, he had so many eyes on him he never got away with anything and has become a very good and decent man!

  • Essyged- sounds like you and I have a similar situation going on...my first thoughts were also, man- I am too old for this!  However, I had my #4 at 38, and it worked out very nicely.  I think part of the questioning comes from having older children, no?  If we were expecting, already having younger children and were all much closer together, ie- 5 kids 11 and under, it feels different, like you didn't really leave the baby stage.  I think it gets harder to accept that we've finished the baby stage, and here we are, about to do it again.  These children will have so many parents!!
  • Congrats to you as well!!  having 2 children is so wonderful- it is so beautiful that you've been blessed to have another and give your older child a sibling!  Plus, you'll have a great extra set of hands!

    Lots of luck :)

  • Congrats!! there is something very wonderful about being a first-time mom, especially having the wisdom and maturity that we (hope to) have once we reach 40!  having a baby is a true blessing- enjoy every moment!
  • I'm there with you. I'm 40 and just found out that I'm expecting for the first time. My DH and I have been together a long time -- nearly 20 years since we started dating.  I'm thrilled, but more than a little freaked out about starting this adventure at 41 (when I deliver)!
  • Congrats! I'll be 44 in a few weeks and my husband is 40.  He has a 20 year old son and I have an almost 13 year old son.  I am 16 weeks along and very excited! We found out it's another boy! I work full time as a first grade teacher, looking forward to summer vacation! Hope everything is going well for you! Definitely more tiring at this age!
