I have BS of CA and called to double check the type of breast pumps that are covered. First call, I was told anything that I wanted. :::cue side eye:::
I called again today, and was told either a Medela or Ameda double pump but she couldn't tell if it was manual or electric. I'm going to assume if it's a double, it would be electric?
And I also asked about when I can get it ordered. She said that there is no waiting period, so if I wanted to I can get it before the baby.
When would (or did) you order the breast pump?
Re: Breast pumps
I would order it now.. honestly all I am hearing is people having to wait months because they are on BO.
I hear the Ameda is better for resale as it is a closed system. I went with the Medela just because I know so many people who used it.
Double system def is electric!
I loved my Ameda and I liked that it was safer to use a second time around or to give to someone else. I came across a thing about Medela getting mold in the motor once and that really threw me off.
ETA: I guess I 'd order it now, but my real advice would be to rent one from the hospital first, and order it when you know it's working out. There's nothing like not being able to BF and then having this pump that cost $250 staring at you. I know it doesn't come out of your pocket, but this flooding of pumps is costing us all.
Francesca Pearl is here! Josephine Hope is almost 3!
I have a different provider here in Michigan, but they also just said "whatever your doctor prescribes" and had essentially no other info for me. **side eye*
They did say that I had to get it from one of their approved durable medical equipment providers, so I talked to one of them and they said that they could not fill the rx until after the baby was born.
Moral of the story: if it sounds to good to be true, it may be. Ask more questions if need be.
