Babies: 3 - 6 Months

how old is baby really?????

LOL, My DD was born Saturday Jan. 19th. Now I go by each week when saying how old she is this Saturday she will be 20 weeks-5 months old but my mother and her father go by the 19th of each month, which is off to me. I would just like to know what other mothers go by.

  • There aren't exactly 4 weeks in each month, so you can't do it that way. Ds was born on the 19th, and the 19th of each month, he's a month older.

    Yep.

  • Months aren't equivalent to weeks. She's 20 weeks or 4.5 months. I only counted weeks until 12 and now I refer to her by the closest half month.
  • You go by the day they were born, not the weeks. My son is wacky cuz he was born on the 31st of December and there isn't a 31st in each month. So sometimes we go by the 1st.

  • I go by month, starting at his birth date. So right now he's 3.5 months old. I've lost track of how many weeks old he is.

This. DS will be 20 weeks on June 4th but not 5 months until June 15th.

All of this. Think about it. If you are saying 4 weeks equals a month, then 48 weeks equals a year (12 x 4 = 48), but there are 52 weeks in a year. Are you saying your LO will be 1 year old 4 weeks before their 1st birthday??

DD is 23 weeks old (as of last Tuesday) or about 5 1/2 months old. She will be 6 months old on June 18 cause she was born on December 18.

Awww I didn't know our babies had the same birthday! :-)

This drove me batty on the pregnancy boards.

The other ladies have explained it already.

A month has passed when you hit the same day of the next month. DS was born on 1/4 and will be 5 months old tomorrow.

    This
I think of it this way, you go by the day when you count years, right? Same should go for months.
It's just easier, I stopped weeks after she hit 3 months. I don't even know off the top if my head how many weeks she is
She was born Jan. 10th and will be 5 months on the 10th of June
  • When I was pregnant I would always round up so I didn't feel as giant for as far along as I was; now I round down so I look great for only 3 months :)

But yeah- I went by weeks until three months, and now LO is (per my ticker) three months, even though he's almost 14 weeks.

This. DS is 20 weeks and when people ask how old he is, I say 4.5 months.

Fwiw, the drs office goes by the date they were born also/not by weeks.
