I'm so frustrated and sad because my almost 9 month old isn't sitting up unsupported yet. He's going to the doctor next Friday so I will ask the pedi about it but what gives? It's like he only wants to lean back or forward not sit upright. I know everyone says babies do things at different times but I'm starting to feel like he's waay behind. Anyone else have a late upright sitter?
Re: Almost 9 months - still not sitting unsupported..
Does he have an exercauser or jumperoo? If not, I would pick one up and try that. We put DD in one when she was 5 months old and put a blanket around her to help stabilize her and over the next few weeks we would make it to where she had more and more room to move around in there and eventually took out the blanket. It really helped to strengthen her stomach muscles and I'm positive that is what got her to sit up by herself.
PS- My DD is almost a year old and is still not crawling. So I totally know how you feel!
we're one of those mom's who's DD didn't sit till she learned to crawl... and i mean proper crawling... rocking, falling, one-leg-kicking scoot, none of that mattered... once she could crawl she wanted to sit... it was a weird way to do things, but before then if you wanted her in a sitting position she had to be in your lap, highchair, or bumbo... she'd immediately push off and lay down no matter where she was. When we talked to our pedi about it, he said sitting unsupported isn't a major milestone and as long as she was meeting all the other markers we were ok. (its kind of like kids who skip crawling but learn to do it after walking... weird...) and as long as she did all of the things eventually... it didn't matter what order she did them.
she also didn't crawl till around 10 months... then it was almost straight to pulling up... no interest in walking tho.
good luck. def talk to your pedi about it tho.
My DD is 3 months developmentally delayed. We have a PT from Early Start come to our house every week to work with her on her gross motor skills. She has only been sitting unassisted for the last 2 weeks. It took FOREVER to get there because she has low muscle tone. She doesn't crawl, moving from a sitting to lying?position, or pull up. And she probably won't do any of those until she is past a year old.
Our PT says exersaucers are a no-no (for long periods of time). I would say you should ask your pedi to evaluate your DS for low muscle tone. IMO, he is behind.?
