I could go over to the trouble ttcing but I'd rather just see I'd any of you lo Ely ladies have any experience.
My new gyno is thinking of putting me on Clomid since it's been close to a year with no conception and I seem to not be ovulating every month.
What were the side effects and did it work/ how long did it take??
Re: clomid?? anyone
Ditto... All of my cycles on Clomid were monitored carefully by and RE. Baseline tests, ultrasounds, trigger shots, etc.
I wouldn't do it with just my OB/GYN
It's Unexplained atm. I have had bloodwork done during my cycle. Along with ultrasounds. Dh had been tested.
I have an appointment on the 12th so she may be referring me to a re.She mentioned Clomid at my last visit if all my tests came out poorly.
At your age I wouldn't even think about clomid until you have gone over the year mark of TTC with no BFP. At that point I would see a reproductive endocrinologist and have testing first. Then have any clomid cycles done through the guidance of the RE. Some will do a cycle or two with minimal monitoring, but even then you'll need at least one ultrasound and a few blood tests per cycle. Clomid cycles that aren't monitored can be dangerous. Side effects can be mood changes (sometimes severe), ovarian cysts, and increased instance of multiples. Among other things.
I was a CMA in RE for several years before I decided to stay at home. I also did 3 clomid/relations cycles. Personally I didn't like clomid because it made me VERY irritable. It didn't work for me either. The most common complaint I saw with patients was mood change/irritability. I did see many many people have success with it though. Again I wouldn't consider any fertility meds until you have had a consultation and some testing with an RE, and have a better idea of what (if anything) is going on. If you have any other questions I can answer them to the best of my knowledge.
Oh yes. The days of TTTC are coming back to me. I remember how vehemently women argued that you playing Russian roulette with your reproductive health if you took Clomid without being under the care of an RE. I was a renegade because I took it under the care of my OBGYN.
For me the most important thing is that my OB diagnosed me with PCOS through thorough testing over a period of time and ultrasound. Then would not make a move without my DH being tested and cleared by a urologist. Then we monitored every cycle with ultrasound while I was on Clomid. It took me 3 cycles to get a BFP and 5 to get a sticky baby. Maybe because I was able to have my ultrasounds and tests sent over to my mom's medical office so that she and her colleagues could take a look, or maybe I just really trusted my OB and his high standards for monitoring, but I broke all of the rules and got lots of side-eyes from the ladies on TTTC. An RE wasn't covered in my insurance plan (I was on my own at the time and not under DH's stellar govt. employee insurance plan) so I did the best I could with what I had and low and behold, I write this from the bathroom floor while my LO splashes in the tub a few feet away.
Do what's safe and right for you.
Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the standard of care for a lot of OBs giving Clomid. I'm glad your doctor is a good one! I don't think anyone should side eye someone who informs themselves and gets proper care.
I would ask about an HSG if they don't mention it. If your tubes are blocked then Clomid won't help. Hopefully your bloodwork will give you an idea if something's going on.
A lot of people feel that you should be under the supervision of an RE and having monitoring u/s done with every cycle to make sure you are not having a serious complication such as hyperstimulation syndrome, but I also know that often it's a first option that OB's throw at you.
We had ttc issues with our first and went through the series of diagnostics with an RE who gave us an explanation for our struggles (endo) and suggested we try clomid with timed intercourse for 3 rounds before resorting to more aggressive measures. We started on the standard dose the first month and then we doubled it the next two months. I did not notice any side effects and although I suspected I had a short luteal phase and was expecting it to change my cycle, it didn't seem to have changed the pattern that much. I went in for an u/s before and after a round of clomid. Using the u/s they could also predict your ovulation day to recommend intercourse. We did not get pregnant during those months. DD was conceived the next month after we had stopped seeing the RE because of relocation and I sort of attribute it to the combination of having procedures like HSG to evaluate the tubes and maybe the clomid having some sort of a "resetting" effect on my reproductive system.
I did take it for one or two month when TTC our daughter.
1) Make sure they are going to properly monitor you with ultrasounds/bloodwork to make sure that you don't grow too many eggs at once. A lot of doctors like to hand it out without monitoring.
2) Side effects for me were bloating and MAJOR mood swings. I fully admit that I turned into a ***.
For us, that didn't work, but we were dealing with Male factor infertility as well as my low progesterone. So, don't go by it not working for us.
I don't know if you have seen one yet, but I highly recommend going to a reproductive endocrinologist if you haven't seen one already. They can really pin point what is going on with your cycle, the best way to get things working properly, and are equipped to monitor all of the fertility drugs to keep it safe for you.

I just highly recommend monitoring. My BFF is now pregnant with triplets due to clomid and that was WITH being monitored.
