so LO has been on solids for about 6 weeks now - we started early with cereal and gradually tried potatoes (sweet and regular), peas, carrots, squash/zuchinni, corn, chicken, pears, apples, bananas, avacados, and peaches. The only thing she has not liked are green beans. Anyway - right now we have the following schedule:
630 - Bottle
8 - Fruit
10 - Bottle
130 - Bottle
230 - Oatmeal (at daycare)
430-5 - Bottle
6 - Veggie
730 - Bottle
At the end of the day she has 27 ounces of formula, 2 oz fruit, cereal, and 2-3 oz veggies.
I guess my question is at what point do you start feeding more solids and less bottles? Between 5-bedtime she is eating every single hour and I am not sure that is what we should be doing or not. Also, how much food are you giving your LO? Should I replace the cereal/oatmeal at daycare with something more substantial ? another veggie or a fruit? I am not sure if it is different for formula fed kids or not so that?s why I am asking.
Re: FF LO and Solids
Our schedule:
7:30 am - 6 oz. bottle
8:30 am - 4 tbs. oatmeal (sometimes toast and egg instead or fruit)
11:30 am - 6 oz. bottle
12:30 pm - 6 oz. puree
3:30 pm - 6 oz. bottle
4:30 - 6 pm - whatever we are eating (the time varies)
8 pm - 6 oz. bottle & 2 1/2 tbs cereal
My son eats alot. He doesn't always finish his bottles. Some days he does other days he'd prefer solids. I'm just going with the flow right now and let him eat when he's hungry.
Here is my DD's schedule (she just turned 8 months):
6am -7 - 8 oz
9am - 4 oz fruit
11am - 8 oz
1pm - 4 oz veggie
4pm - 8 oz
6pm - 4 oz veggie, plus fresh fruit - cantelope, strawberries, banana, etc.
8pm - 8 oz
It seems like a lot to me, but she eats it all and never pushes away. Daycare feeds her breakfast & lunch, when I am home with her I give her more "table foods" that purees.
8 am- 6 oz bottle
10 am- 4 oz fruit or veggie
12 pm- 6 oz bottle
4 pm- 6 oz bottle
6 pm- 4 oz fruit/veggie
7-8 pm- 6 oz bottle
Throughout the day she snacks on finger foods (puffs, fruits, cheese or whatever I'm eating). Sometimes she'll still seem hungry after her last bottle so I'll offer an extra 2 oz formula.
Thanks this is very helpful. It seems like a lot but she is happy....
What age can they start having puffs?
