PT going No. 2 help

DD has been daytime pt since 19 months. She is now 28 months.

But she has pretty much always waited until nap time or bedtime to poop in her pull ups. I've been lazy about this but now's the time.

Should I just get rid of the pullups altogether? I'd do a version of the 3 day method, which we did the first time, and plan on being available all during her sleep, if that makes sense.

At nap time today I told her big girls poop on the toilet, since she started saying she's a big girl. Then I told her if she did and we will end the pullups she will get a surprise for her bed. I want to get her a Hello Kitty toddler bed comforter, pillow and sheets since she only uses a small pillow and baby blanket.

Thoughts? Advice? Tips? Not looking forward to the poop smeared bed...lol..

  • How did you know she was ready at 19 months?! That's not that far off for us...

For the other, no advice, but I'm interested in the other responses!

She just kept telling us she wanted to pee on the toilet, lol. I knew she was young but I didn't want to pass up the opportunity!

I remember going to a party shortly after and I was nervous and put a pullup on her...she came to me twice while we were there and told me she had to pee, and she did!

Fwiw, the 3 day method was awesome. If you go that route, plan NOTHING those days and don't give up after the first day! I set the timer for every 15 minutes and she still had a dozen accidents, lol. Second day she had only a few, and none the third day.

I don't know what you mean by 3 day method! Is it something daycares do? I know her daycare starts putting them on the potty at around 18 months (seems young, but if A was 19 months...maybe not!)

  • Sadly, I didn't crack down on DD1 until she was almost 3.5 when it came to pooping in the potty.  She was daytime pt at 2, but would wait until she was at home (never had a single poopy accident at daycare) and the same thing - poop in her pull up before bedtime.  We read books, tried Miralax and Fiber One kid bars and finally I just got fed up.  She snuck up and told me to change her poop and I think I *might* have yelled and said "if you are old enough to ask me that, you are old enough to go in the potty!  You are wearing undies ALL the time from now on."  I also had to take her to the potty around 10 pm every night since she wasn't used to getting up.  After almost 4 days, she came to me crying with a tiny bit of poop in her undies.  I made her sit on the toilet and she resisted for nearly 40 minutes.  It was heartbreaking, but she had to do it.  At one point, I left to trade off with DH and it got silent.  About 20 seconds later, she screamed "Mommy, come see my poop in the potty!"  Now she goes like a champ and she is quick... I think she still holds it because she rarely goes at preschool :)  Good luck!!

Have you heard of the glitter thing? Apparently you put glitter in the potty to make the potty safe for poop. You can get multiple colors and let LO pick the color. Sounds really weird but a few girls have said it works.

It's basically like PTing cold turkey. We put DD in underwear (or you can do naked) and set the timer for every 15 minutes and took her to the bathroom (or if she started going sooner).

It's basically so they can connect when they feel the urge to go with seeing what actually happens.

And I don't think daycares do it because you have to constantly be glued to LO.

Yeah, I feel that's how DD would be. And I'd be so freaked out about her not going for days. Ugh. Good to know it worked though, lol! ;) Thanks much, I have a feeling I'll be doing this.

I haven't, but this sounds super cool!! Lol, I'll have to have some glitter on hand if she holds out for a couple days. Thanks so much for the idea!
