Hi, I hope you guys don't get sick of questions from those of us still in the IF trenches. Congrats to you all.
I'm just wondering if any of you did a eSET for your BFP? I am currently stimming so no way of knowing if I will be lucky enough to make it to transfer let alone a 5dt blastocyst transfer but my RE's office has made it clear that they will only do an eSET for 5dt if the patient is under 35 (I am 34). It makes me anxious that my cchances of success will be reduced.
I have read a ton of siggies etc but seems most people transfer 2 and a lot of people end up with singletons anyway.
TIA!

If you are under 35 and have a good quality blast by Day 5, I absolutely recommend a SET. At my clinic, transferring two does not increase the overall odds of getting pregnant, but it does increase your odds of twins or more.
A twin pregnancy is nothing to take lightly, and you should not assume that you will just end up with a singleton anyway.
Just to share my story (as something to keep in mind of what can happen), we transferred 1 5-day blast, and it split into identical twins. I am SO thankful we didn't transfer two, have them both take and be looking at triplets (or more).
3/22 ER: 25R, 20M, 15F. 9 genetically normal, and 3 survived to Day 5
3/27 ET: transferred 1 embryo, beta 9dp5dt=163, 12dp5dt=639
4/25 1st ultrasound at 7 weeks = identical twins with heartbeats?!!!
We only transferred one because the quality was the best we could get and I didn't want to be pregnant with multiples. If the quality of our embryos had been worse, we would most likely have transferred 2. Our RE only wanted to transfer 1 because of the quality and my age as well and didn't even give us an option to transfer 2, although I'm sure I could have pushed for that if we wanted to.
I'm pregnant with a singleton btw.
GL!
We only transferred 1! Ours actually split, but the second ended very early (by 7.5 weeks it was gone). We had 5 embryos at our 5dt, 4 were good and 1 was excellent, so our RE recommended we only transfer the 1. I'm 28 and we were totally fine with that decision because we didn't want twins (we would have been happy if we were blessed with them, but we weren't going to chose it).
Good luck!

I kinda enjoy these type of posts because it puts everyone's answers in one post and it is very interesting to read.
I did IVF twice. First time we didn't have enough embies to make it to a 5dt so we did 2 on a 3dt, BFN. Second time we had enough to do a 5dt and transferred 2 and got pg with a singleton. See we knew my IF issue was egg quality which transfers into embryo quality too. I am 32. Thankfully, we were able to even have 1 make it to freeze!
I think 1 or 2 is going to depend on how the whole picture looks and this is where your RE's advice is so good to listen too.
I wish you all the best and hope your BFP and miracle happen soon.

All of this. We used DE and opted for an eSET (which, by the way, disqualified us from the guarantee programs) because we had a high-quality day 5 blast.

I did a 5dt of one embie and am just waiting on an ultrasound to see what is going on in there! DH and I are under 30 so my RE recommended 2 embies if we did a 3dt and 1 if we did a 5dt. Maybe ask your RE if he recommends a change based on the day of transfer and/or quality?
Good luck to you!
We did a SET too. I had just turned 35 and based on the number and status of embies I qualified for a day 5 transfer.
At my clinic, the goal is to minimize the chance of multiples wherever possible. If you have have a quality blast a SET shouldn't change your chances much if at all.
this was my first IVF cycle and I am currently 15 weeks along.
We did an eSET with a 5 day blast and were successful. Like PP's have said, our Dr. said that transferring more than one would increase our chance for multiples, not overall success.
FWIW, my BIL and his wife also did IVF (different clinic, unexplained if) and transferred 3 embryos and have triplets.
Just keep in mind that while we had many discussions about this very topic, the decision was quite clear the day of transfer.
I wish you lots of luck!
It all depends on the quality of the blasts. Putting in 2 lower quality might be very reasonable and have a low risk of multiples, whereas putting in 2 very high quality ones is another story. I would hope your doctor would wait to see what the quality is before making a decision.
Good luck!

January PAL Siggy Challenge: Good Advice
We did a 5dt of one perfect embie and I'm almost 18w with one healthy bean.
FWIW, the rates of success aren't much higher with transferring two embies, but it (IIRC) nearly doubles your risk of twins. That was the big reason we decided to go with a SET.
I only was able to transfer 1 (3d embryo). I only had 2 left, which were frozen at the 2PN stage, we thawed both with the intention of putting both, but by the time day 3 rolled around, only 1 embie had survived the thaw. I've only ever done 3dt and not any 5dt (didn't have enough embryo's to try and make it to 5d).
anyways, today I am 13w with a 3d SET
My husband & I had been through a year of various failed IUI's, followed by an unsuccessful IVF cycle (where egg fertilization was poor and resulted in no embryos by D3). Second IVF cycle was much more optimal (for several reasons including the use of ICSI), and we ended up with 2 perfect embryos plus 4 almost perfect embryos by D5. I'm 37, which is the cutoff for recommending ESET, so technically we could have gone either way. But since embryo quality was so high and we knew we'd have plenty of embies to freeze, we felt strongly about transferring only one. Now I'm pregnant with a singleton and we couldn't be happier with our decision.
