Public Transportation...now?

For mobile: Public Transportation...now?

So I work in a major US city and currently they are filming the new Captain America movie here.  They have now closed one of the major highways that go in and out of our downtown area and will be closed for two weeks.  Because of this, my commute to and from work downtown is horrific!!  It takes me an extra 45 minutes to get home now.  I only live about 10 minutes outside of downtown and was thinking about taking our rail system to work.  I'm 39w3d and am a little nervous.  Would you take it??  If I do go into labor at work, I already have a plan for someone to take me, so I'm covered there.  Just wanted some opinions.

How long would it take via rail?  If it's less than 45 minutes, I'd go for it.  If you did go into labor in your car, you'd be stuck in traffic and I know if it were me, that would just make me anxious and stressed.  At least on the train you've got the option of getting off at an earlier stop and having someone meet you at the station.

Then again, if I lived in your city I'd be stalking Chris Evans (the actor who plays Capt America).  He's my imaginary boyfriend - don't tell DH!

  • I'm guessing you're in Cleveland? Sorry not trying to blow your cover but I'm from there and my friends and fam have been all over FB about it.

I would not personally, I live in Chicago and with DS stopped taking the EL around 36 wks because it was too uncomfortable. I don't think the RTA would be any better! Can you work from home?

I am from Cleveland and that's okay that you blew my cover.  I would have shared, but wasn't sure how much people reveal on here.  I did take it this morning and felt okay.  I was able to get a seat so that was a bonus!  It's only a 15 minute ride from my station to downtown, so I figured it was better than sitting in 45 minutes worth of traffic.  I'll probably take it the remainder of the week unless I start having contractions (which I haven't felt yet) :(.  I have a feeling this baby is gonna come late!!

Ps.  No Chris Evans siting as of yet!! I hope so because he is sooo darn hot!

  • I'm in Cleveland and, I recommend taking the rail. I started working from home this week so I avoided the major traffic headaches but any commute to the east side or downtown? I'm taking rail. Rt 2 is supposed to be shut down til the 15th and rail is quicker.

  • I took the train 1 hour an the T subway 15 minutes until after my due date. Youre fine. Unless yove had insanely fast previous births you'll likely have PLENTY of time to get home and then to the hospital if anything happens
  • I also live in a big city and use PT when my hubby can't drive me to work or pick me up. I manage OK. But don't expect for anyone to give you a seat on a crowded train.

  • I don't see why not. Plenty of pregnant women live without cars and rely on public transportation to get to where they are going. We'll actually be taking the train to the hospital once I'm in labor.

That's good to hear I rarely got a seat on the el, ppl are so rude. And yay for Cleveland having decent public transport and a major movie being filmed there!!!
  • It would be much easier to go into labor on a train than in a car by yourself. Sounds like its leas stressful too! Good luck!

  • It's all stressful, driving or PT. just make sure you have a few big pads with you in case your water breaks. Mine didn't the first time but did last Friday and it wouldve been a pain to deal with if I was out and about.
