One of my best friends just gave birth to a little girl with severe gastochisis. They were only able to save about 30cm of her bowel. I recommend googling "no guts, all glory". It's an inspiring blog about a girl with gastochisis.
Lucas looks very healthy despite his condition; I'm sure he'll do great!
I work in the OR at a children's hospital and operate on several gastroschesis babies every year! They all seem to do great and end up so healthy! Congrats on your sweet boy and enjoy him! I'm sure you had a huge surprise with his delivery, but I'm happy to hear he is doing so well! Sounds like you are too. We're they able to put all of the bowel back in on the first try? Sometimes they do it in stages depending on babies size and amount of bowel out. Take care, and let me know if you have any questions regarding his surgery or future surgeries.
Sweet little girl AMM born 6/13/12 via scheduled csection. Surprised with a pregnancy in September, 2012 which ended in MC in October at 7.5 weeks. Surprised again(!) with another pregnancy in November. Baby due 7/19/13. Depo clearly does not work for us!
Congrats on your handsome little boy! I love the name you picked out. I'm sorry that you are having to deal with the surprise of his early birth and the congenital issues and I hope that all the interventions are a great success and he will thrive under the care of his medical team and your love and attentiveness. Wishing you all the best and keep us posted on Luke's progress.
Such a handsome little guy! Congrats!!! You have a wonderful attitude, though I am sure the events of the past few weeks have been shocking and really hard. Many thoughts and prayers that the next few months pass uneventfully as possible and that he has a successful 2nd surgery with a smooth recovery.

Congratulations and welcome to the NICU club! My daughter was born May 17 at 31 weeks 3 days after I was on hospital bed rest for a week due to high blood pressure. She'll likely be in the NICU for at least two more weeks, so that would be over a month, but it could be longer depending on how well she does with bottle feeds. It's definitely hard and there will be good days and emotional days. I haven't gone through the whole process yet, but just wanted to let you know there's another NICU mom on the July board!

Thanks! They were able to put it all back in - it was a large amount, but they removed about 4oz of fluid from his stomach just before surgery, so that helped make room.
And to the other NICU/preemie mamas - thanks for your support, and my congratulations and T&Ps right back at ya!

This kid may not have a lot of bowel, but he has plenty of guts! DS born at 34 weeks with (surprise!) gastroschisis turned short bowel syndrome. 131 days in the NICU, 7 trips to the OR, G-button, daily TPN....
We are impatiently awaiting the day we can say goodbye to his girlfriend Ivy for good.
I just saw this now and wanted to say that you have my thoughts & prayers. Lucas is BEYOND adorable. I am in love with his hair! I hope the second surgery goes smoothly and I can wait to read more good updates.
Congratulations mama!! He's beautiful. I hope everything goes well. A very good friend of mine (From elementary) his brother was born the same way, and he's 100% a.ok. He even wrestles on the HS team!
Re: Lucas is here! PIP, and T&P please.
Congratulations!
