Another back to work/pumping question

Ok, I feel like I've asked a ton of these questions, but tomorrow is D-day and I'm really nervous.. How many bottles do you take to pump into? I double pump, so need 2 at a time, so if I plan to pump 3 times, I should plan on 6 bottles? Or is there better logic?

Re: Another back to work/pumping question

  • I BF DD around 6 and then I pump twice in my 8 hour day, once at 10 and again at 2. I usually pump about 12 ounces total. I take 2 4 oz storage bottles for the first round, then I cap the bottles that go on my pump for the second round. Easy as that! Don't forget your cooler. Did that on my second day back. Good luck tomorrow! It was easier than I thought it would be. :-)

  • I pump once before work, and then twice at work.  I always take 4 bottles.
  • If you have access to a sink to wash bottles and don't pump a ridiculous amount, you can get away with just four. I use two bottles for the first pump, consolidate to one bottle and wash the other to use the second time, then do the same thing after I pump the second time. Then, I still have two left for the third pumping session.

  • I only take 3 bottles; one big 9 ounce bottle, and two 5 ounce bottles. I only pump twice in an 8 hour day though. I double pump into the smaller bottles the first time and dump both into the big bottle for storage. Then I refrigerate my pump parts and bottles [no time or place to wash them] and use the two smaller bottles to double pump the second time. I cap those and take everything home.

  • I take BM storage bags too, but I sometimes store it in the bottles. I work 12's so I pump 3 times, sometimes 4 if I pump before work. My hubby brings LO during my lunch to BF and then I pump after. So for the whole 12 hours I usually have anywhere from 8-16 oz depending on how many pump sessions and how much LO eats on my lunch.

  • I keep my pump parts in the fridge, so I take with me 2 of the 80ml bottles + either 1 8oz bottle or 2 5oz bottles (I usually pump 7-9oz at work).  I just pour it all into the one/two bigger bottle after each pump.

  • I just bring two bottles to pump in and milk storage bags. I just pour what I pump into the bags and then put the bags in a cooler in the fridge. I got sick of bringing all the bottles after about two days.
  • I pump 3 times a day and usually come away with 15+ oz.  I take two bottles (5 oz) that I pump into every session (stored in the fridge in between two sessions.)  Two 8 oz bottles that I pour the milk into.  So four bottles all together.

  • I always have the 4 5oz bottles that came with my Medela pump, but they hold about 7oz. I also keep milk storage bags on hand if needed, too

I pump three times a day. First session: combine milk from the two bottles into one bottle. Second session: use bottle from session one and one new bottle, combine milk into one bottle again. Same with session three. Sometimes I pump more than what can fit in one bottle, and that is why I have the storage bags handy.

I get anywhere from 15 to 18oz a day and this method worked for a year of pumping for my daughter. So far, its working just as well this time, too. Oh yeah....I always freeze Fridays milk so I can rotate my stash.

I just take two large 9 oz bottles. I usually get around 3-4oz per side each session and this way I have less to wash. Maybe it's because I'm lazy, but the less money and energy I have to use, the better.

  • I take 2 bottles and bags.  I pump into the bottles than pour it into bags and labell it.  I also work 24 hours and pump 6 times a day.  I also pump 4 am before I leave for work. You just have to figure out what works for ya.
