Hoping for a little advice... we are going to be traveling to NC in July (from PA). We are planning on a 2 day hotel stay on the way to the beach house.
We won't be able to really clean the bottles so we were thinking about the similac ready to feed with the nipples that are disposable but I'm afraid the nipple is going to be too slow of a flow.
I am looking for easy and little to no clean up for bottles, we were thinking about the drop ins too.
If you did a long trip what did you do? Or what are you planning on doing?
And any advice for keeping baby happy in the car for that long?
ETA- We are leaving at 9PM and driving most of the way, we are meeting up with family at the hotel the following day - hence the 2 nights at the hotel. So hopefully DS will sleep most of the way
Re: Travel with baby (long drive)
We drove from TX to IL (and back) when DS was about 5mo old. I use powdered formula (DS doesn't tollerate RTF) so this is what we did...
Used ziploc snack size bags and created premeasured packs for each bottle. (They make these for regular Similac but not sensitive so I made my own. You can buy them if you use regular.)
To mix I bought 8oz bottles of water and a powdered drink mixer (like this).
I always use Playtex drop ins so we didn't need to buy anything special.
I would put the 8oz bottle of water in the mixer and then cut the ziploc bag (it works easier than trying to dump the formula out of the top) and put the formula in the mixer. Swirl to mix (if you shake you will get a lot of bubbles). Dump it in the bottle and your done. Liner gets thown away when you stop and you can rinse the nipple/bottle too. We still do this if we are out and it's time to eat.
For entertainment, new toys were the key. I made sure that all of his toys were in a bag within my reach. When he would get fussy I would just swap out toys. It worked wonders. We stopped every few hours anyways for potty/food/gas so that gave him a break out of the car seat.
Good Luck and have a great trip!
Can you just bring a bottle brush, some dish soap and a gallon of water to rinse with? That way you won't need to change up your LO's formula or deal with using a different bottle. If you are staying at a hotel then you can just take enough bottles for the day and clean them at night.
I traveled with my LO (airplane trip) and planned to use ready to feed to make it easier. I bought a 6 pack and opened one at home to try it. My LO refused to eat it so I stuck with his regular powder. The day of travel was about 14 hours from my house to the destination. I took 4 bottles filled with water and a powdered formula dispenser. I was prepared to reuse a bottle by just rinsing it with water but it wasn't necessary.
As for keeping a the baby happy in the car, is there any music that your LO really likes? My DS loves 1 nursery rhyme that he will listen to for hours. I keep a copy of it on my phone and play it for him if he gets fussy in the car.
Feb 2016 Siggy Challenge, Favorite Thing About Fall
This. We had to make the drive from VA Beach to Little Rock, AR and we made it into a 3 day trip, stopping in hotels to sleep and break up the drive. I brought a bottle brush and dish soap and washed them in the sink. As for keeping the baby happy, there's not really much you can do besides sitting in the back with LO and even that might not work for too long. DS2 was good usually the first half of the drive, but after that he hated being in the car. We did everything we could to make him happy, even stopping more than we wanted to. But there were some fits of screaming that we just had to bear through. GL!!
driving is definitely easier than flying! i just brought our dr brown sterilizer and brush with us it was so easy to do this than switch up bottles. loaded all the bottles clean to travel and was good to go
I even brought or bullet with us on our last trip we stayed in a house so it was cool
