Babies: 9 - 12 Months

what stuff does your baby use?

hey ladies! i have a question about what stuff your babies are using at the 9-12 months of age. i'm a FTM with a 4 month old baby girl and my best friend is expecting her first baby in october. i would like to let her use as much as my stuff as possible to help her out with expenses but i can't afford to give her things that i'm using. so, can you tell me if your babes are still using:

rock n play

bouncy seat

swing

play mat

kick n play

infant carrier (i have the britax b safe)

any insight you have would be greatly appreciated!

Re: what stuff does your baby use?

  • Of the items on your list that we did use, we were done with by 9 months. The swing was the first thing we stopped using. We never had an infant car seat.
  • We we're done using all of those things by 9 months.

  • Loading the player...
  • The only things on your list we still use at 9 months is the kick and play piano (I have it set up so she can sit at it now) and the rock and play, which we really only use when we're visiting family for the day and need somewhere for her to nap...don't want to lug the pack and play for that!
  • My LO is 10 months and we aren't using any of those things anymore.  He used the RnP for the first 3 months.  We never had a bouncy seat.  He had a swing but never liked it.  He stopped using the play mat when he started rolling both directions, so maybe about 5 months old, I'm not exactly sure.  We switched from the carrier carseat to a convertible carseat when he was about 8 months old.

  • My LO just turned 9 months.  He still uses the piano on the kick and play mat. He is still in his infant car seat (also the Britax B Safe).  Since he is not sitting up 100% on his own yet, I will sometimes put him in the bouncy seat if we're in a room with hard floors.  He never liked the swing.  That's about it. I heard you shouldn't use the rock and play once they start rolling over.
  • My LO is almost a year and we haven't used any of this stuff except for her infant seat since she was probably 7 months! One she could sit up at 5 months, she didn't want to be put in any sort of immobile contraption ;)

  • We still use the bouncy seats for bottles.  I have the tiny love super mat play mat and we bring it outside all the time (my twins are not really even crawling yet).  We still use the swing occasionally for naps. The twins are still in the infant seats but those are getting SO hard to carry around.  But since they still fall asleep in the car, I am not ready to move to convertible seats yet.

Give her the rock and play, but the rest her baby won't need right away anyway.  Although we did use the swing right away...

The only thing we still use is the infant carrier.  If she doesn't have a large growth spurt we will hopefully use it until she is one.  We are heading to Canada for the summer, with a side trip to Italy.  She is nine months and 11 days.  She weighs 16 pounds and 12 ounces and has a 11 inch torso.  She rides in a Chaperone.
  • We moved from britax carrier to ergo carrier at 5-6 months. Still use it now. Way less back pain for heavier babies
  • At a little over 8 months we are no longer using any of these things.  In fact, we stopped using all but the infant carrier by 4 or 5 months and just stopped using her infant carrier a few weeks ago (although we could have used it much longer, she still has quite a bit of room but we opted to switch her to a convertible seat).

  • My LO still uses her Jumper sometimes. Shes bored of all the toys on it though so I hafta put the tv on in order for her to stay in it for 20 minutes or so. She also really likes her stand and play.THe play mat lasted for about 3 months and the swing for about 6 months. I would still get those eve nthough they dont use em for long.

Oh I thought you meant like a baby carrier. We switched to a convertible carseat at 5 months.
  • at almost 10 months we only use the swing ocasionally and infant carrier still. switching from infant seat to convertible all depends on the size of your child though, my DS is tall but only 17/18 lbs so using the infant carrier is still manageable for us until he reaches the height limit.

  • we are no longer using any of those you have listed. DS2 is still using his Jumperoo but is almost too big for it so it will only last another couple weeks I think. Other than that he just plays on the floor with toys! That is very nice of you to lend your gear to your friend! pat on the back!

  • Never had: rock'n play, bouncy seat, kick n play.

Have, but No Longer Use: Swing, Play Mat

    Still Use: Infant carrier/carseat

We stopped using mat when she could roll over since she got stuck & annoyed in it then. We used the swing til around 7 months when she really kept wanting to sit up and got mad in it.
