Boy names opinions please

I know this probably belongs on the baby name board, but just looking for some general opinions :

We don't know the sex yet, but we have had Declan James picked out for a while for a boy. It's the name we picked out if DD had been a boy.

The past few days I am stuck on Eli and Elliot. I don't know why, but I'm in love with both names all the sudden. So...
What's your favorite?
and...
Would you use Eli as a nickname for Elliot? I slightly prefer Eli, but Elliot flows better with our two syllable last name.

By the way, DD is Adelle Margaret. So I feel like Elliot is a better pair than Declan, but maybe that's just me?

Re: Boy names opinions please

  • I really like Declan...tried it out on the hubs and he wasn't a fan so it's off our list.

  • Personally I like Elliot a lot. Declan is NMS. I think Eli is fine as a nn for Elliot.

However, both are good names, and despite my preference for one name over the other, I think "Adelle and Declan" sound better together than "Adelle and Elliot"

ETA: fixed spelling, my phone autocorrected wrong
  • I'm no help. I like Eli, Elliott AND Declan. :)

I love Eli, like Elliot also, and don't care for Declan.
  • I like Elliot but I really don?t like Eli as a nickname and that is why I would probably not take it.

Declan is NMS. I like Elliot- I have a nephew named Elliot, but we (family, or even his parents) have never called him Eli for short. Usually we call him "El" ("L") for short. But I see how Eli could be used as n.n for Elliot. And I agree with you in that Adelle and Elliot sound like a better pair.
  • DS's middle name is Elliott (we did a lot of research and settled on this spelling) so I of course love that name.  Declan is so-so but I feel like it's becoming more popular now so I wouldn't choose that myself.

We wanted to go with Eli or Elijah but there are way too many of those popping up now. I'm not a fan of Elliott. I think Declan is my favorite.

I love Eli James and Declan James.  Not a big fan of Elliot and I wouldn't use it with NN Eli.

ETA:  I think Declan and Eli both go well with Adelle.  Also, I think I am liking Declan James a little bit more that Eli James :)

  • I like Declan - but when I saw your daughter's name - I think I'd go with Elliot.

  • Love James as a middle name. Was thinking about using it for this one's middle name if it's a boy but might use my grandfather's last name instead as he only had boys and I want to honor him somehow. He passed away right before I was born.

  • My fave is Declan, but that's because it's on the top of our boy list (and we'd use the middle name James after my FIL).  I agree with others, Elliott goes better with your daughter's name.

  • I like both, I guess I'm not a big help. :) Good luck!
  • I really, really dislike Declan.

I do love Elliot.  NN Eli would be perfectly fine!!

I am very partial to Eli as my son is Elijah. When I was picking his name it was because I actually loved the idea of calling him e (which is what almost everyone calls him and what he goes by 99% of the time). I couldn't convince my husband at the time and actually wanted to name him Elias and call him eli/e but went with Elijah instead.

I do like Elliot but I don't see eli as the nickname.

I also love Declan and hadn't even heard that name until my girlfriend named her son that 6 months ago. Since then I seem to hear it everywhere!
