Does Glucose test have to be done in the morning?

Mobile: Does Glucose test have to be done in the morning?

Does anyone recall if the glucose tolerance test must be done first thing in the morning? Mine was specific to say non fasting, so I wondered if it could be done any time of day? Thought I'd check here, or call OB in the morning.

  • I would just ask your OB. Different ones do different tests and different tests have different requirements.

The test is testing your body's reaction to the sugar. A "normal" reaction is to have your body produce insulin and your blood sugar to come back/stay at normal. Bodies have the hardest time doing this in the morning.

  • I did my one hour non fasting in the afternoon.

I failed it though, I don't know if that would have affected it. I just found out today I passed my fasting 2 hour last week so I don't know.

ETA never mind..everyone else's answers were much more confident than mine lol

  • Mine was in the morning but like pp said, it's best to check with your OB. I'm pretty sure several ladies had theirs in the afternoon, if I remember correctly.
  • I was given the drink and the lab paperwork and told to do it anytime within a the week. The time didn't matter and I was able to eat before just nothing an hour beforehand and nothing to drink but water. If your unsure just call your office. From posts I've seen every office seems to be different.

  • For me it was just easier to do it in the morning. Mainly because I couldn't have any caloric intake for 2 hours before my test started. So I was able to wake up and have breakfast, go to my appointment, then have lunch. I didn't have to miss or put off any meals. ;)

  • Mine is at 9 am next Tuesday.  I have had the drink in my fridge since my last appointment about two weeks ago.  I can eat up to drinking the stuff but once I drink it, I can not have anything after until they draw my blood.
  • The lab that I go to only makes the appointments in the morning. I tried to get one later in the day to make it easier for work but 7am to 9 were the only avail appointments.

  • mine was a non-fasting and was allowed anytime of the day.

The one I did at the beg of my pregnancy as fasting, and it was still allowed anytime of the day, but was suggested early morning as the easiest for true fasting results

  • For my doc, the 3hr has to be done first thing in the morning but the 1hr can be done at any time.  I did the 1hr at 2 in the afternoon and failed by 3 stupid points, so I am doing the 3hr on Monday and the only time option was 8am.  I think because you can't eat for 8 hours prior.
