If you are partaking in caffeine or have in a past pregnancy how much per day? I have about a half a cup of coffee that is mostly FF creamer in the morning and a coke for lunch. I can't get a good answer on its proven negative effects online. Dr seemed ok with my intake so I was just curious what you ladies do?? I have never been a huge soda drinker but I swear coke is the only thing I crave!!
Re: Caffeine .. Is anyone drinking any?
The recommendation is to minimize caffeine intake to 200-300 mg per day. Since your OB is not concerned with your intake, I would trust his/her judgment.
I either have one cup of coffee or a glass of iced tea/hot tea per day.
Not worth the risk!!!!!
Lol!
I drank a cup or two before pregnancy. I definitely needed it in the morning. However, I completely abstained from it during the first trimester. Despite being strict about the food rules, coffee is one thing that I occasionally have. It hasn't been every day or even every week. Sometimes I just need a half of cup because I had a horrible night sleep the night before.
My doctor allows me up to 200-300mg of caffeine a day but that includes the caffeine in chocolate, iced tea, etc.
If your doctor isn't concerned about your intake, than I wouldn't be.
P.S. I am not sure if you like Starbucks but I get their baby size (small pike) when I do buy some coffee. It is not on the menu so you have to ask for the size. But It is so cute!!
haha!
Now, caffeine I did consume on a daily basis before getting pregnant. Personally, I either have a cup of black coffee in the morning or a cola in the afternoon. Some days I don't need it. Today is not one of those days.
ETA: The first trimester, I couldn't stand the smell of coffee. So caffeine was out until about week 12.
Grande mocha/latte from Starbucks 150mg
Grande black coffee from Starbucks 330mg
12 oz Coke 35mg
Also sometime at Starbucks I'll do a half caf more than not these days so that is about 7590mg.

lol.
When I sat down with my offices OB coordinator she asked me how much caffeine I was drinking and I felt so guilty telling her that I've been drinking chocolate milk because I just can't stand regular milk white. She nearly laughed at me and told me not to worry.
I don't drink coffee so this isn't a problem for me but I was an avid Coca-Cola drinker and I've pretty much stopped consuming soda. Although I did cave and get a Coke Slurpee over the weekend!!
As long as you're under 200mg they say you're OK however, to be sure I've just done my best to stay away from it as much as possible (chocolate & chocolate milk however are a must for me!).
I have a cup of coffee most mornings. If I go to Starbucks, I try to get half-caff, but at home I just make it full strength since we have a Kuereg. I also have a coke and/or sweet tea on almost a daily basis.
I probably had the same (or maybe even more) caffeine during my last pregnancy. You can have up to like 250mg, which is a grande coffee from Starbucks. It's a lot of caffeine, so don't sweat a coke or two.
That's a great point! For every cup or coffee, I make sure to drink an equal amount of water in addition to my regular water intake so as not to get dehydrated. It's best to get at least a glass of water in your system in the morning before you drink coffee.
Now that's impressive!
Bwahahahahahaha.
I try to cut back on caffeine and sodas as a lifestyle choice, not because of pregnancy. I'm a recovering Pepsi addict and tried to cut out soda last year. I don't even allow dh to buy Pepsi or Wild Cherry Pepsi. He's only allowed to bring Mountain Dew or Code Red into this house, because I think they both taste like crap and won't touch them.
I have never liked coffee. And have never been able to fully kick my soda habit. So now I drink soda like some people drink alcohol. Only social situations like going out to eat. Otherwise I will go on a soda bender!
Hahaha!! Awesome.
My OB said a cup of coffee a day is fine. I've been buying halfcaff and decaf and mixing them so I can have 2 [or maybe 3 if its the weekend and I'm just really craving coffee] cups. That's the only caffeine I drink each day.
I am currently enjoying a Mello Yellow.
When I had morning sickness, mellow yellow was the only thing that I could keep down, even water made me sick. I drink a couple cans a day.
If your OB isn't concerned, then don't be.
When I could stand the smell of it again I started to have a cup a day. But I noticed that I was crashing hard in the afternoon; so I have switched to decaf (most days) and noticed a huge difference. I can usually get through the 2pm crash without feeling tired at all.
But I have been craving coke like NO OTHER. So I still drink that!
