Acupuncture for high blood pressure

I've been having some issues with borderline high blood pressure. My midwife has put me on modified bed rest. I've heard of people getting acupuncture for high blood pressure. Has anyone here tried that before?

Re: Acupuncture for high blood pressure

  • I haven't tried it, but I would if I faced that later in pregnancy, after upping my protein intake big time.

  • It's worth a try. I've never gotten acupuncture done, but will do anything to keep my blood pressure down.

That being said, a few weeks ago my midwife noticed my blood pressure creeping up and traces of protein and ketones in my urine. She told me to eat a high protein diet (at least 80 g per day) and one raw cucumber and an ounce of dark chocolate a day. I followed her instructions exactly, and in two weeks time my systolic was down 20 points and my diastolic was down 10 points!

She's had me eating more protein and that's helped a little. She didn't mention the cucumber and dark chocolate though. I may have to try that. Did you just eat the cucumber plain?

Yeah, I just cut one up every morning into small pieces and snacked on it throughout the day. It's too much to eat all at once, I never realized how filling cucumber is lol! Cucumber helps because it's a natural diuretic. I don't know exactly what's in dark chocolate that can help, but there are all kind of articles about it.

  • I would recommend seeing a chiropractor. I work for one and have seen it help significantly with BP. Extensive research studies have linked chiropractic care to decreased blood pressure and found it more effective than the combination of TWO blood pressure medications!  Plus it is completely safe for you and baby (boosts your immune system by 200% each time!). We see pregnant moms from week 2 to week 40! I recommend a Maximized Living Doctor or at least a corrective chiro who will do extensive exams before adjusting for the best results.
  • How's it going?
